It's not mirror-tint but...........

When it rains, my windshield is silver and it kinda looks like mirror-tint, and I dont like this. Does anybody elses do this? It doesn't look like it's tinted. Is it illegal/not safe to tint the windshield? When I get my windows re-tinted I'm probably going with 30% on the sides and back, would 50 or 60 be illegal or make it hard to see out of my windshield? Anybody have pics of a tinted windshield? Thanks!!

Well for one I see that you live in Ga. Congratulations! Tint here in Ga. is illegal on the windshield no matter which % you put on it. You can only do 6" from the top down and 6" from the bottom up. You could tint the whole windshield if you want,I will not tell anyone I have actually thought about doing my windshied with something around 65-75%,seeing that IMO anything else darker would make it hard to see out of at night.

i think you got it backwaRDS, 50 or 60 is lighter than 30. the percentage is how much light is let into the glass. Where 5% is pitch black and 95% is mostly clear. Get it??

Wrong again. It also depends on which state you live in. Each state has it's own classification, and in GA it just happens to be the oppisite of what you said dude. Sorry to bust the bubble, but just thought I would let you know, before someone gets confused.

I wouldn't worry too much about the tint laws in Ga. I'm about to redo mine and bascially have 5 all around except on the main windshield. It'll be no tint.

My brother and many others I know have been running 5 for a few years. But of course, you'll eventually find that cop that will ask you to take it off.

I know a few people that have tinted their cars 5% all around and then did 32% on the front. You won't be able to see hardly... 32 is darker than you think when the rest of the car has been done in 5%

He's right. 5% is considered limo. I've never heard of any other rankings, in fact when you buy tint you do it by that percentage. Now in terms of what % is allowed in each state, yes the laws do differ from one state to another.

No, hes right... the percent refers to the amount of light that passes through the tint.

EDIT: Just saw that Ions pointed this out already. Ah well

here in ny 30 percent is legal... i got 10 percent on the side and 5 percent on the back. already got a ticket for the side a few days b4 i put it away for the winter. ions is right about the %. it tells you how much light passes through, cause when i got pulled over the cop told me to roll my window up a bit, then he took this "tint darkness reader" type thing, and put it on the top of my window and the reading said 10%, and the way it works is by sending a light beam from one side to the other and however much light reaches the other side it determins the percentage.

Black_Widdow-I live in good ol' Calhoun, about 45 minutes North of "HOT-lanta" As far as Silverish, its sort of hard to exactely tell what you are talking about without me actually seeing it in person or possibly a pic. Is the windshield the original one that came with the car? What color is the "banding" around the windshield?(about 2in. on the sides and top and 5in. on the bottom) Have you put any type of rain product on it lately,rain-X,Wet-No,etc.....?

You must have misunderstood me! I was thinking about 30 on the sides and hatch, but I wondered if something as light as 50 or 60 would be illegal on the windshield. I know that the lower the number the darker the tint. Think about it. why would I want to black out my windshield?!
I think here in GA 35 is the legal limit but you can get by with 30. I had a friend put 15 on his 67 Nova and a couple days later he got pulled over and the cop actually scratched his tint up with a knife or something so that he would have to take it off or have it just look like crap
BirdonFire, to my knowledge my car still has the original windshield. It has the black banding on the bottom and sides and the ugly faded orange looking crap on the top, but that will soon be black too, when I get it tinted. I haven't used any rain-x or anything ever, just regular windshield washing fluid. I took some more pics of my car and I have a few lefton the roll so I'll try to get a pic of it in the rain in the next few days or whenever it rains so I can show you what I mean.
So tint on the windshiled is illegal? I just wish there was something I could do! Maybe I'll just drive on sunny days

Yep, here in Ga (probably everywhere else too) it is against the law to tint your whole windshield. Like I said in my post above you are only able to tint 6" on top and 6" on the bottom. Just be careful if you choose to tint your entire windshield. Post pics of your windshield when you get a chance.

If you have sensitive eyes you can get a doctors note and get your windshield tinted to a certain degree.
My friend has 5% on the sides and back window of his Mustang and it's too dark, especially at night, can barely see the side view mirrors when the windows are up.
Here in VA it's 50% for the sides and 35% for the rear window, unless you have an SUV or Van then it's 50% for the drivers and passenger windows and down to 5% for all the rear windows.

Here in Ga you can not go any darker than 35% on the side windows, yet you can do any % that you would like on your rear window. On my bird, I currently have 5% on my rear window and also 5% on my passenger side window, what about my drivers side you ask? I will tell you later :sillylol: :sillylol:

I personally like mirror tint, cuz it doesn't look like a mirror until you're right next to it. My windows has a silverish look when raining, so what, I like it. And besides you guys are forgetting one important thing, don't just tint the whole window, FADE it. Make it dark on top and lighter going down. That way you can easily use the excuse of blocking sun, do the same with the windshield, some cars have it stock, but dark looks better than like green. Theres a kid at school who has dark tint FADED into mirror tint. It just looked weird, I never knew it was a mirror, looked dark tint faded on the window. However I don't like it much cuz the fade begins halfway down the window. Should have put the fade a little higher or lower.

I dont really like mirror-tint all over, but I did have this idea of putting a mirror-tint Bowtie on my back hatch glass whenever I get it retinted.
Before tint comes, I have to get some new side windows cause when my power window motors gave out I had to pull up on the windows to get them back up and it kinda scratched the outsides of the windows. How much would a good set of windows cost in a junkyard?
I'll be getting some pics in the next couple days, it just has to rain real good first

The tint that is on my car is metallic flake. Looks really dark in the sun and looks like a mirror when it's overcast,

Sunny outside,

Overcast,
