Looking for appearance improvements. Please offer Ideas..
Hey guys, I own a 82-Z28 camaro. I want to add a couple appearance improvements to it. Right now it is shiny red. I have the stock crossfire hood on it, and ive seen where you can buy black stickers that go in the slits, and it is really thick sticky vinyl, and it actually looks really good. I dont want to repaint it, i dont want to add new rims, what ideas do you think would help my car out? where do I buy those stickers for the hood? let me know what you think.

Hey thank you! its always good to get compliments. not bad for a 82.. actually the windows are tinted. Im just looking to get a couple little addons that makes it look a little nicer..i like the thought of stripes maybe? i seen a company that made them for the hood inserts, and someone else made stripes that go on the paint also, that stick like hell and doesnt peel, etc.. that looked good, but any other things you can think of? thanks man!

hey, what products are really good to take out the swirls on the paint? and to make it shinier? what do you think besides that zaino? Is anything worth getting that you can buy from your local paint and body shop? what have you tried? what do you recommend?

3m Product # 39009 swirl remover... use with a buffer equipped with a foam pad. be careful not to press too hard, especially around corners. do one section at a time when finished section wipe/buff with 100% cotton towel.
follow-up with your favorite wax... the fav. on the board is Zaino (you only need a little bit of Zaino it goes a loooong way! i strongly advise getting it).
I would suggest a good cleaning/polish job... also removing the bra (not a big fan of bra's)... but whatever floats your boat i guess
you ever think ofa nice subtle windshield decal? there are some nice ones that aren't cheesy out there.

I will have to go to my local body and paint shop and get some swirl remover and polish it up. Thats for the part #.. I have been thinking of a windshield decal, but im not sure what to have it say? what are some of the more popular sayings? where do you get them? I know that sounds like a dumb question, but im not sure where you get the nice decals that go on the outside of the window.. let me know on that one.. i think this car will shine great ones it gets the swirls out and polishes up. thanks guys

I may be wrong (and according to my wife, I'm wrong about many things), but weren't the wider moldings on the side of the car introduced in the later 80's?

I would get it buffed of do it yourself, and lose the bra. Those can do more damage than they do good, and IMO I think they're ugly. Otherwise, nice car you got there.
yeah, you gotta loose the bra and the louvers on the back window! i dont know if i would get a big windsheild decal. they are alright as long as you dont get some "Pimp" (Old English) font.
I would take off the back louvers and get a big red chevy bowtie in the back window! that would look good. I like the idea of the strips on the front hood that would sit in the hood lines.
I'm thinking about getting the pontiac diamond going on the t tops. with they arrow part facing forward going right down the center of the T Tops... I think that would look cool. you wouldnt notice it unless you stood next to it or were in something a little bigger then my car at a stop light...
Other then that your car looks good!

Are your wheels clearcoated? If not, get some wheel polish from Eagle 1 or Mothers, the stuff that looks like shoe polish. You might wanna use a buffer or a buffer on a drill bit to put it on cause it takes a long time, but it will look good.
I would also get those black stripes you're talking about.
If it were me I'd take the bra and louvers off too.
Then polish and wax the paint.
Head light and tail light covers look great, especially on red camaros.
You could order some 4th gen Z28 exhaust tips from Year One that would go great with the red-black scheme.
These are just some of my ideas. Your car looks great though man. I wish every camaro of that year was in that good of shape.

You'll find that 90% of the folks here absolutely adore a cherry stock looking 3rd gen. One can hardly blame them--the 82-92 Camaro is a masterpiece of automotive syling. Very hard to improve on, thus most don't do a lot to the outside. Except for custom colours.
Inside there is a tone of stuff that can be added and customised. Ditch the factory stereo and speakers, for instance, since they are that in name only--and that's being generous
Improved upholstery is another area a lot of the gang here like to tinker with.
