Window Tinting

Does anybody know about window tinting laws in their state (especially New Jersey)? Even if you dont live in jersey, I would still like to hear what your state's standards are. Thanks in advance, Dave.

5% rear and rear side windows
35% side windows

Within the next month or so, imma have my hatch retinted 15% and the sides done 35%.

How can you have tint when its not legal?? I did ask, I had to remove mine, you will not pass inspection in NJ, and if you do somehow () find a way to pass, you can be pulled over.

Like Mark said, it is 35% here in MD, but I have 5% limo tint. The trick is to get the car inspected, then tint the windows yourself. I have not gotten pulled over, for that, yet.

how is tint illegal in Nj when shops all around Nj will tint ur windows? the only reason they have u take it off is becuz it my be too dark and they cant see u maybe thats y. but also if u get pulled over becuz of ur tinted windows i bet that cops being a dick that day and felt like have u remove it. becuz ive never seen anyone on the side of the rode in nj removing there tint becuz they have it. becuz i think the cops have more important things then to worry about tinted windows. now if they were like tinted all around then id see u having a problem or if u have ur windows tinted so much u cant even see out them id see a problem.

I think as long as you don't drive like a moron, a cop will leave you alone, I've been pulled over twice with my tint and blackouts, and the cops were real cool about things and didn't say anything.

I have 5% also on my windows. I have had my windows tinted and had blackouts for my tailights for 4 years with never a problem form the law. When I did get pulled over for speeding the state cop saw them windows and tailights but didnt say anything. I also have some friends that are state cops. One said that they wont pull you over for it but if the cop is a dick he will nail you for it. Good thing that alot of police are chevy lovers. They kind of go easier on you if you have a nice camaro. The love nailing imports.

Yeah lol, cops don't bother me either, I think they like the good ol muscle, I mean how many times a day do you see or hear such great cars.
..And in 15 years lol, if those ricers become cops, that will be the day when cop cars will have 5ft spoilers.

legal limit here is 35% but i have 20% all around...tint wouldnt stay on top of the hatch window (where the lines are) so i striped it off there gonna go get one of those aerowings to cover it up when i get the chance..no cop has said anything about the tint or blackouts yet..and just about anyplace will pass a car even when dark tint they dont care

I honestly dont think a cop is really gonna notice you tint or anything else when you drive by, but if they pull you overfor goingover the speed imit r driving like a moron, that is when they start to notice stuff
Whn i used to have my grand prix i was driving thru town and there was a cop standingg arund ad he told me to ull ove because my music was too loud after that he started looking around the cr ad saying hings like oh you have blue headlights turn on your regular ones, im like these are regular ones and hes ike well those are illegal, then he told me to shut my fog lihts off cuse it was too foggy, as ike 4 people drve by with fog lights on. also about the new jersey thing how can it be illegal if you can go buy brand new cars with tint on them from the factory, just today i saw a cravan with an NJ plate with factory tinted windows. anothe thing is here in MA they test your windows and you wont pass inspection but you need to either get friendly with someone or get it down ater the car is registered. personaly i dont think anyne cares and i think it should be legal cause i dont see the harm in it.

In NJ tinting of anythign to the left, right, and front of you is illegal, no matter what percent the tint is, anything behind you is fair game. And this is coming from my local police station, yet you'll see cars going around with the side windows tinted. it really depends on the cop, sometimes they could be jerks and fork over a ticket for the tints, and sometimes they'll let it slide, but i'm positive the law states taht nothing to the left right and front in NJ

For obvious reasons the laws here in Arizona are pretty lax. You can put limo black on every window except windshield and front side windows. Front side windows can be dark but not limo black.

The sun can be so harsh out here that even window tinting that is relatively light can make a huge difference. I would estimate that 80% off all cars in Arizona have window tinting of some kind.

The problem we run into out here is that the surrounding states do not allow the same tinting Arizona allows. You can actually get a ticket by driving your car to California if it has limo black tint.

well then that would take away my idea of cars coming tinted from the factory cause they dont tint the front windws, anyway does anyone knoww exactly why they have tinting laws??? the only thing i can think of is with limo tint ive heard its actually hard to see out of at night but maybe they should just make 5% illegal cause my 35% on my lincoln isnt cutting it and when i get my camaro tinted i dont wantpeople peeking in the back at my l7 solos im putting in

Here's an idea, imagine you're a cop and you pull over a suspicious vehicle, wouldn't you like to be able to see what the driver is doing. I know I would.

the reason y they have the tint laws is becuz like yrs ago i think it was yrs but anyway. this cops pulled some guy over and the cops couldnt see what the hell the driver was doing and when the cop got up to the window the driver shot and killed the officer. thats y they have the tint law.

vans and trucks have differant tint laws than cars. In MN car tint is 50% and you can go as dark as you want in vans and trucks. My truck has 5% in the back.

dude, don't do that, you really won't like it. just suck it up and tint the whole car (excluding the windshield, of course) to 5%. if you do the back 5% and the sides, any lighter, you're gonna want to get it taken off and done all 5%. i had an argument with my parents about it a few weeks ago. so far i've driven right past a whole bunch of cops and nobody even looked twice. plus, with a 5% tint, your car looks baaaad a$$.:hail: anyway, go for the darkest 5% you can find. i got black onyx done in edison for $220, and it's really worth it. i'll post some pictures when i get them scanned. but seriously, don't sell yourself short and get a wussy tint on the side windows because you're scared of cops. just my 2 cents...

i passed inspection in october, and i don't have to do it again for a couple years. maybe by then i won't even be driving this car (i plan to get a beater and keep this one in the garage and keep making it nicer until i give it to my son in like 40 years), but if i am, i made sure there were a few local places that would pass me with the windows tinted. as far as the cops in clark, i don't really know. i have a cousin that lives there (he drives an audi a6 2.8T), so i could always ask him about the cops, but i'm sure you have as good of an idea as he does.

I think the worst thing a cop can do is pull you over and make you rip the tint off right there, but i've never seen it happen or even heard of it actually happening. they might give you a warning and tell you to get rid of it, but if you don't, i think the worst you'll get is a fine. i thought that it was worth the risk. if you think about it, you're probably just as likely to get pulled over for driving a camaro or firebird as you are for having tinted windows. when you bought this car, you knew that you had a higher probablility of getting crap from cops than a lot of other people, but you did it anyway. so why stop there?

I don't live in NJ but i live right outside of philly about 10 min fron nj. I have 35% on my sides and 20% on my rear. I have been stopped a couple of times but nothing ever happend. I was told that those specs were legal by one cop and by another that unless it is from the factory it is illegal. My buddy has a 95 mustang and it is 5% all the way around he was pulled over with iexpired stickers and illegal tint not to mention an off road h pipe and the cop let him go with a warning. I have never had any problems with my tint and have been in nj a bunch of times with it. it all depends on if they feel like stopping you once they stop you they try to find other stuff so be careful they wrote me a warning for my gts covers when they originally stopped me for tint. they litterally walked around my car and tried to find something.

Car: too many ...
In Hawaii the law is 34% side/side and rear window. No tint allowed on the windshield. If you own a truck you can have any % you want on the rear window (of the cab). If you own a suv only the fronts have to be 34%, the rest can be whatever you want. But it dosnt really matter because nobody follows the rules anyway ... on my Camaro I have 50% on the windshield, 5% on the sides and 5% on the hatch (all black tint). On my truck I have 45% on the windshield (reflective), 2% on the sides (green hued reflective) and 0% on the back (reflective).

For my next two projects I plan to run 35% on the windshield and 5% all around (both the 91 Z28 Camaro and the 85 SVO Stang). I'm gonna scrape the tint on my 90 RS and make it the 'legal' daily driver (front plate and all!).
