Formula front-end repair

How tough is it to fix the urethane front end on a '91 firebird formula? I've attached the dealer's image. You can hopefully see a scuffed part outside of the driver side fog light. It looks like the car bumped a pole or something pretty good. The break's vertical, and extends from about the top of the black part to the bottom of the front end where it curves under - maybe 6-8 inches or so. None of the material's missing, but it's kind of a jagged crack. Can I just melt the stuff together and sand it, or is there a special way to fix that stuff, or do I need to just find a new front piece (maybe a VFN fiberglass front end with quarter panels...)?

The body's straight, and the car's got the WS6+350 and an MSD box already, but it'll need painted regardless (I can't have a red car - cops don't need encouraged to pull me over).

If you plan on repainting the car anyway, I would recommend buying a replacement front clip. I bought my brand new '83 front clip online for $100, and i'm thinking you could probably find a used one for that price if you shop around online. If you're dead set on repairing the damage yourself, my only recommendation would be that you try using Bondo fiberglass body filler. Good luck in whichever you choose...keep us updated!

Have fun finding a bumper cover for that. I looked for a good used one for over a year until i broke down and bought it from GM. At that time they told me they might no available anymore due to adhesion problems? Good luck with it though, there is just something about 91 and 92 birds.

p.s. i may be biased though

Oh, they're not too hard to find (apperently). I've found several on-line. But at $300-$700 a pop, I'd really rather invest in the tools to repair the thing in case it happens again on one of my cars.

Or maybe I'll just get a bra for it and forget about the problem.

Use "SEM" - brand plastic/urethane repair kit. I't's expensive, but works well.
