there was a recall on the red buttons because they tend to get pink and brittle and will release, if yours are like that take it to a dealer and its a free replacement..

The dealer in my area (Everett, WA) told me to pack sand. It was too long ago and they were under no obligation to do it now. I just happened to find some at a bone yard and swapped them out. They are a nice cherry red color and have the metal clip on the outside as shown in the recall.

Mine started to fade slowly at first. One day I was getting ready to get out of my car to go to work and could not get out. I tried wiggling out for 15 finally; I had to use a steak knife that was in the car.
Afterwards I went to the dealer and they ran the VIN number and told me that my car wasn't covered by the recall.
I called the NHTSA and they said that my car wasn't covered.
Needless to say I was ticked. I was like this is my SEATBELT, something I need!
So they were suppose to send me a complaint form which would take 6-8 weeks, which still hasn't arrived.
Then my seatbelt started unhooking itself as I was driving down the road. (fun)
So my ex-bf (wasn't ex at the time) said I could have his. But he didn't tell me he didn't have the tool to remove it. After I bought the tool, he put it in. The only thing is I have a black inter and he had a tan one...
this is what it looks like now. Funny looking, but then if you see the whole car.....

I just got my seatbelt buttons replaced about a month ago. I went into the local GM dealer (Elliots) and told them that I had read on a reliable web site about a seatbelt recall. The guy said that he would look it up and give us a call if he found anything. He called the next day and said he found it, had ordered the buttons, and would call to set up a date for the installation. 100% free, and the new black cases w/ red buttons really add to the interior. They did all 4 buttons, and the cases around the buttons. It is listed in the FAQ part of this web site....here, I'll just put it in my reply.
Q: What is the purpose of the "seat belt" recall?
A: This is for the 1984 to 1990 Camaros. Some of the button assemblies on the seat belts will not connect or release over time. The buttons also become discolored (to a pink color) and brittle especially when exposed to long periods of sunlight. The recall number is #90-C-22. Contact a dealership near you about replacement of the button assemblies. This should be done free of charge.
Hope this helps ya.
