GTA Interior

I have a chance to buy a grey cloth gta interior. So, what kind of material is this made out of and how durrable is it? Also, how much would this be worth? I looked at it, and it appeared to be in great condition as far as I could tell. This is out of an 89. This would include the seats, dash, center console carpet, all pannels, and actually the complete doors I believe so that I could convert my car to power windows, locks and mirrors. He said that I could have "all of the interior" I believe I could also get the steering wheel and hatch motor ect... I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to hook up the steering wheel so that it would actually work with an aftermarket radio (I kind of doubt this but thought I would ask).

Thanks

Ben

to answer some of your questions:

If you get the steering wheel, and want to use it with an aftermarket radio, I was told that there is a gizmo that converts the information for the aftermarket radio. The catch is the radio has to accept it. AND you will have to install the GTA column, or at least run the wires for the controls.

What I am planning on doing is this: I bought a steering wheel from a 91 Bonneville, with the wheel controls, the reason I took this wheel was I liked the looks of it and it resembled the 88-89 Firebird wheel. I plan on re-wiring it to control my radio by drilingl a hole in the side of the wheel to point at my reciever for the remote control. Should work, just have to get the wheel re-covered or re-paint the wheel first.

I believe the seats were made from a material called "Metrix Cloth" some of the other seats were made from Pallex Cloth. The Pallex Cloth seems to hold up ok, but it rots and then begins to fall apart. I assume that the same will happen or has happened to the Metrix cloth, but i do not know. It all depends on amount of wear, use, and exposure to the sun, rain, dirt etc.

I would say for JUST the interior, I could probably get the door panels for about $20 pair, the seats run about $40 ea, and the plastic interior pieces would run about 20-30 for the set. The dash cluster would be $70, the center console, is $20, back seats $40 for set, Power mirrors I can get for $40 for the set including wires and switch. The doors are an unknown since I have never bought any from a junkyard.

For everything I could walk into a salvge yard, offer them $250 for everything including the wheel, dash everything and they would probably bite.

there just guestamates... that means I am guessing from past experience, but it all depends on how hard up the guy is, and how bad you want it.

Well, I saw the interior once, and it looked great. I didnt see any wear or damage. The center console, seats, and dash looked perfect from what I saw but I wasnt even thinking to check the type of material it was made out of. I know that the high end camaro seats like in my friends iroc seem to be a much more durable material. I dont know if this is what they are but he calls them tweed. It didnt appear that they were made out of that material but I didnt see any rips or fading so I wondered if they were made out of something different than the normal cloth. Oh, and I believe the car has around 130000 on it. Being as the whole interior looked so good I suppose it could have been just real well taken care of.

it seems that starting in about 88-89 they used better materilas, because from what I have noticed is the early interiors seemed to rip rot & wear fast, but most of the later interiors last longer, and hold up better.

good dash cap - $50 used

Thanks for the help. If anyone else has anything to add feel free. It is an 89 GTA. It has the sportier seats with the side bolsters and different head rest, and the rears I believe are split bench. I will be getting everything I believe. Seats(drivers is power), seat belts, doors(power windows/locks/mirrors), entire dash(cluster/dash pad/large piece that everything else mounts to), carpet, center console, all pannels, and probably the steering wheel or column, and possibly the rear hatch pulldown. He told me $600 but said that he would go down some. I offered him 500. This sounds like it may have been a little on the high side, but it is not often around here that you come across stuff like this, espeically in good shape, so I think I will go for it.

in REALLY good condition that would be acceptable, my figure mind you is working with people I harass often, but thats just me. If you add up the list I gave you it should be close to 5- 600 depending on how much you get. IF you get the door panels, remember to get the brackets for the arm rests, they are slightly different than the standard ones.

Also get the door handles themselves they too are slightly different and will have an extra screw hole in them with an extra bracket.

if you figure about $25 for the hatch pull down, $25 for the steering wheel and $100 for each door, you have done really well for $500

Sounds good. I will get all the stuff for the door, because I plan on just unbolting the doors and taking the entire doors. The car is wrecked and in a garage. He just keept it for the motor and to maybe sell some of the stuff I believe.

Does anyone know if a steering wheel from a 1989 Firebird will fit into a 1988 Camaro?
My friend is getting a new Grant wheel for his 'Bird and I like his stock wheel a lot better than mine, but neither of us knows whether it will fit. Some help please!

Firebird wheel

I have one in my car because someone tried to steal my car (had to replace the steering column).
I'll give you my steering wheel when i replace it with a Grant Corsa (2 weeks).

sorry

It is just the round wheel with the FireChicken Horn Button. I hate the wheel to tell you the truth..it reminds me of a hula hoop.
Sorry it wasn't the ont you were looking for.
