seat recliner thingy

heres the deal, i bought my car with the seat like stuck in "pimp-daddy" position. Right now the car just gets moved in the driveway, but when i finally finish it, i won't be able to drive like that. I have a parts car with a recliner thing that works. how can i switch 'em without switching seats? BTW, good car is 88 formula, parts is 84 6 banger, in case they might not swap

reclining mechanism is bolted onto both the top and bottom seat frame using 4 bolts. slide the seat covers back a little bit to access the bolts.

also, check out http://www.geocities.com/modularmotor/thirdgen/seatswap for some other thirdgen seat related information.

Like 2VModular said, or you can do what I do. Just put the drivers side backseat down, and put a basketball inbetween the folding part and the bottom seat, works great.

I need some 4th gen seats bad.

basketball is a creative solution. but you'd likely suffer additional injuries (particulary to your back) if the car was involved in a collision.

Yeah, the B-Ball works good.LOL But actually my recliner still works, but the left side rail underneath broke in half. So I either have to pull the seat and weld it back together then fix the horrible rip in the seat, or just get some new seats. I can live with it now, but sooner or later I'll get some 4th Gen seats.

recliner is an L-shaped device, two bolts hold each leg of the recliner to the seat frame. top portion is a little bit longer than the bottom, but neither extend the entire length of the seat. can gain access to all the retaining bolts by sliding the seat covers off a little bit. may have to remove some "hog rings" to avoid tearing the seat cover. eastwood company has hog rings & hog ring pliers forsale inexpensively.

note: seat recliner is not usually the cause of the seat leaning back too much. is usually caused by a bent or broken metal seat frame. you will likely be able to make one good seat out of your two sets since it appears that you have one with a good frame but wornout upholstery, and one with a bad frame but good upholstery.

the seat doesn't recline or adjust that way at all it doesn't seem like it would be broken. i might just wait on buying some 4th gen seats, just got a higher paying job =)

Re: seat recliner thingy

my seat folds foward without hitting the switch so i bought a new seat recliner, you can still get them, just did a test fit and it works fantastic now, it doesnt snag anything to take it off by the way.
