Repairing Rot? I Need Advice!

I bought a Standard 85' Camaro earlier this year, in hopes of fixing up as a project vehicle. I'm in the dark as to how I'm going to fix the rot under the right rear side. I open my trunk to lift up my carpet, as I am looking to replace it, and I moved a few panels around and there I saw rot right through the underside of my car. It needs to be fixed pronto! I searched the rest of the car and it seems to be the only problem area. How do I fix it?? I need to know my first step.

Re: Repairing Rot? I Need Advice!

first off you cant fix rot. you can remove it, by cutting out the rotted metal and welding in a patch of sheet metal. you can also stop it from spreading, by sanding out the rust (if it is just surface) and using a good quality primer and paint to seal it. if there is a good sized hole, you are in for a learning experience. if it is just surface rust you should be able to fix quickly, and if it is real rusty but seems fixable the first step is to remove the rust with a grinder, then you can see what needs to be done.

Could I have that done somewhere? I want to make sure it's fixed properly.

if its jsut surface rust with no holes just go out an get some sand paper and sand it off. if theres a hole either get a welder and sheet metal or jsut go to a body shop an tell them too do it.

Re: Repairing Rot? I Need Advice!

My best bet is to have it done for me until I learn how to do it myself properly. Thanks for the help.

didnt think of that, but if he wanted it grinded, filled and painted he'd need an auto shop.
