I have been trying to get one of these spoilers for years, so if they are manufactured again, I would definitely like to get one! I did drop a line to rexorr@americansportscar.com to let him know that I am interested.

Chill out chief. Not everybody sits around their computer waiting for emails to come rolling in. I'm sure that he'll get back to you eventually. I've found that most small businesses like ASCD, Spohn, etc. sometimes take forever to respond, because they don't have a dedicated computer jockey that answers email. If they get 5 minutes a day, they answer as much email as they can, and the rest waits until they find more time.

Last time I talked with ASCD about this 5" spoiler, they said they were not going to start making them again until this fall. What they told me was that their mold is broken. So, to give them a little motivation, which in my opinion is $$$$, let's get a list of people together (group purchase) who are serious about buying one of these. Hopefully this will spark interest in the good people at Amercian sports car design.

Their website is: http://www.americansportscar.com/

Ive emailed them a few times about it. I get very quick reply's but still no firm date other than this fall. That could just as well mean next year.

Lock,

Do you think we could get a sign-up list going for those interested and then give that to ASCD? I'm thinking that they don't see a market for this spoiler, as the thirdgen camaro is getting older. So, if we can convince them there are ALOT of interested buyers, then maybe they will consider it????

What do you think?

Ok, everyone who would like the 5" spoiler back in production, send me an email: nleotcs@hotmail.com and once I have a list of names I will forward that to ASCD to see if they will seriously consider making this thing again. If they will, then we will talk about the price, I am guesing that it will be between $200-$300. Sound good? If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks

Exactly. 99% of the people won't even notice the difference. Nice subtle changes that enhance the car's original lines instead of completely changing them. It should work great on my car to balance the cowl hood.

$99.00.

It's dosen't cost that much to make one. And they already have the mold.

This is exactly why nobody makes thirdgen parts. Everybody wants one, but nobody is willing to pay for them. You will NEVER get that spoiler for $99. Production quantity is way too low for them to be able to offer it at that price. Look at the GTAuto spoilers. $450 for a GTA wrap around. It's not priced at $450 for him to get rich. It's priced at $450 because he is making a low quantity, application specific item.

As far as I know, Rex is redesigning the spoiler, which will mean it will need a new mold. Why go through all that work and expense if you're only going to get $100 a pop? I know I wouldn't.

You're also not taking into account just how much variation there is in quality from one fiberglass product to another. I can't ever remember seeing a $100 spoiler that wasn't a wavey, badly molded piece of crap. It looks nice when it's bare, but as soon as you squirt shiny paint on (especially a dark color) it starts to look like it was hand laid by a drunk. Quality fiberglass work costs money. GTAuto's fiberglass spoiler is extremely high quality and well worth the money. I expect Rex's to also be worth the money. I'd rather pay $250 for a perfectly straight, good fitting spoiler than pay $100 and spending 2 months making it straight.

$100 is not realistic. I would expect to pay 2 - 300. To be unique on a thirdgen is difficult to do. If this purely asthetic mod adds to an already unique car, wheres the harm in paying for it ?

I also like the idea of the third brake light in the spoiler. This would look awsome on my ride! I'm also intrested. I do also agree that it is crazy to pay only $99! You pay for what you get!

I understand what you guys mean by high quality fiberglass pieces, but I also agree with KJ. If it were 200-300 I would seriously conider a Z28 wing instead. If it were under 200 then I would conisider the 5" spoiler. Thats just too much money for 3 more inches of spoiler that looks exactly the same as my stock pieces.

EDIT: Oh and who knows how functioinal this is? Dont want to be called rice.

well, obviously that's your choice, but I would expect that the 5" spoiler would be priced at around the same amount as a Z28 spoiler. But hey, why pay $300 for a stock Z28 spoiler that's exactly the same as everybody elses Z28 spoiler? The fact is, in either case, it comes down to whatever you think looks better.

EDIT: Oh and who knows how functioinal this is? Dont want to be called rice.
I doubt that anybody has done wind tunnel testing, but just by looking at it, I'm sure it's far more functional than the Z28 style.

EDIT: Just thought of another thing. Unless you are doing all of the body and paint work yourself, the 5" spoiler will cost substantially less to have installed. The 5" spoiler should use the stock mounting points, where the Z28 spoiler does not. Unless you're really going for the trailer-park dual spoiler look, you're going to have to pay to have the stock holes filled & painted. That'll easily cost more than the price differential between the Z28 and the 5" spoiler.

Good point on the holes. I agree it looks more functional than the z28 style. I guess I'll have to make a decesion when they are avaliable. Wish I could say I was in and add me to the list (so we can get this going) but I'll have to think about it. Thanks for the help Jim.

I just talked to the guy at GT Auto last night and he said they will probably be offering a combo on the T.G.O. hood and the 5" iroc spoiler. I plan to get one as soon as I have the money, or maybe a loan is in order.

If I may throw my opinion out there, well, this 5" spoiler will not look exactly the same as your stock pieces. If you go back in this thread you can see a few pics if it.

Oh and who knows how functioinal this is? Dont want to be called rice.
As far as the functionality of this spoiler, it will probably give you a little more down force than the stock 3-peice (I have absolutely no evidence to back that up..). But, if you look at stock cars, they use a spoiler which to me looks very similar in angle and height. Personally, I could care less how functional the thing is because it looks so damn good, I just want this spoiler produced, on my car and painted ASAP.

and there you have it..............................

Any word about them making one for the bird?? I think having a 1/2" gap on either side of the main spoiler might look kinda bad, ok really bad!!

Well guys, I sent Rex (at ASCD) an e-mail on Sunday, October 6 and I still have not received a reply from him. At the time I wrote the e-mail, I had a list of 10 guys including myself and I told him that we would probably have a minimum of 15-20 people in this group purchase.
Anyway, I just wanted to keep you guys posted with this and I hope that we hear back from him.

Later,
Neil

I e-mailed Rex Orr this past weekend and he told me that they have a lot of requests for this spoiler and they will try to make it again this winter for spring. Not this fall! I did not get a price. I also did not mention the group purchase. There ya go!

I already went through this with a Moser 12-bolt GP and i would not like to do it again. There are way too many dead beats out there! It makes me look like a dick when i can not come up with the right amount of people. I say if you are interested, e-mail him and just clutter up his inbox! That might get them off of their *** instead of one guy just bothering him all the time. Anyone know what these were priced at before? I am not paying $300 for a spoiler exactly the same as a stock but taller, no way!

Yeah, right! You and all of the other hundreds of "individuals", right? For $300 you could probally have your body shop do the same thing to your stock spoiler and have it painted! I really can't say too much b/c i DO NOT know the price yet, but we'll see. I'd spend that money on something useful like drag radials or something.
