Trust me when I say that a body shop can't make a stock spoiler 5" tall for $300. $300 for a hand-laid fiberglass spoiler that's as high quality and as straight as the stock piece is a very fair price.

I hear you on the parts issue, but trust me, if i told you about some of the stuff into my car already, you would be either impressed or calling me crazy! I would like to get only the best parts for my car but i can not see paying $300 for a spoiler like that right now. I just do not have the funds anymore! Just like i can not see spending $500 on an HID headlight kit right now either! When the money and time comes, i get things that i really want to have. But right now, i feel if the price is that i high, i will have to pass. But like a said, we'll see what they decide to do if they ever start making them again. And i would rather have this spoiler over the high rise spoiler just as a personal preference. I like the way it looks. I also like the one for the 93-97 Z28s. they look bad as hell too.

But there's a big difference between saying that it's more than you can spend, and saying that it's not worth the money.

Sorry about any confussion! Yet another case of talking over the internet with split meanings and interpretations. Your right, there is a big difference. I was not putting down any quality or anything like that, it is just about the funds to me right now. I have too much involved in my motor swap and it just needs to get done right now before it gets really cold. So who knows, maybe when they finally come around to making them again, i will be ready to purchase. Later-Bryan

That mustang spoiler on ebay is a ford oe piece. There were probably 50,000 - 100,000 of that spoiler made, so that production cost is well dissipated.
This spoiler will sell maybe 1000 units i'm guessing. So that production cost is going to be a pretty significant part of the price of each spoiler sold.
And on top of all that, the 3 piece spoiler is more complex. It bolts onto a shaped surface at specific mounting locations, and well, it's 3 pieces. It's gonna cost a hell of a lot more to prototype and mold as a result.
That mustang spoiler and the Z28 high rise are really simple. One piece designs that bolt onto a flat deck. If you can't see why the 3 piece is more expensive, then just buy a Z28 high rise for christ's sake.

well.. here is an idea, y dont we all send them a email saying we would be interseted.. hence possibly moving up production date. cause if they know they will have X amount of sales right from day 1, they will know they will have X amount of money coming in. but i still would like to know how much they are going for. i can c spending $100 for 1.. maybe a bit more. .but anything higher then $150 and im iffy.

Everyone e-mail them! Thats what i said. lol Seriously, how much money would it take to produce a "mold". We are not even talking $1000 here! I got a quote for a bolt on carbonfiber hood with a Viper NACA duct installed for $1500. This is not rocket science and it is their business. Trust me when i tell you it is not a problem for them to make one if they had too! That is why they wake up in the morning, to do this stuff. Think about if they sold 1000@$300, WOW. Can you say highway robbery? If they sold ten it would be worth it to them. Once again, if i had the extra cash laying around i would jump on it. But if they turn out to be $300, i will have to think about it. It should not cost that much. Just leave it to the experts to see what happens next. Because thats all we can do is wait.

Read the rest of the thread. If they were just popping them out of the old mold, they'd already be ready for purchase. Rex is redesigning it. TGO Supporter

rexorr@americansportscar.com That should be his address! I e-mailed him a few weeks ago and he told me that he had a lot of requests for it but it will not be till the winter when they start making them again. Whatever that means, i guess in the spring. I hope its not $300, seems a little high. Who knows though. Oh yeah, his name is Rex Orr, good luck-Bryan

But... that has absolutely nothing to do with whether the cost is fair. For everybody that's screaming about it being overpriced, blah blah blah, I'd like to see what sort of qualifications you've got to base your decisions on. Those of us that are around body shops and are familiar with fiberglass panels are aware of what it takes to produce these (especially in small quantities) and what it requires to produce one that's straight enough not to look like somebody's Silly Putty project after it's got shiny paint on it. Getting fiberglass straight requires quality work from skilled craftsmen. Quality costs money. That's what everybody seems to be completely unaware of.

It's hard to believe that somebody can be educated in more than shoe tieing, isn't it? I never said that I was a crank expert. I was just suggesting that some of the clowns that were spewing opinions like they were the inventor of the crank really should explain what makes them such an expert.
As for fiberglass... well, I explained why I feel that my opinion is valid instead of just expecting all of the lemmings to believe every word I say.

im not sure if this has been posted on here or not.. but if u like that angle that the 2nd gen f-bodys had, u can actually take a spoiler from a 2nd gen (77'ish-81) and they fit on a 3rd gen and look pretty good. granted its not a direct fit and u will have to do some fabercating*i forget at this moment what exactly has to be done*.. but i beleive there is a few members on this site who have done this and it looks really sweet.. hopefully they will post some pics.

I was told in the spring it would be ready ,IF, they were to make them again! So i am done asking. If you want it, ask and maybe they will start if they have not already. good luck

That spoiler is badass, if they made one for the birds, like the 2nd gen style id buy it.
As for the $300 thats not too bad... cause fiberglassing is a pain .. if you get a 100$ piece it probably wont be as good quality as the $300 one ya get what ya pay for, im with Jim on this ... hes even explained himself on why it would be $300.

Heck if a 2nd gen one would work I can go to the junk yard right now and get the whole 2nd spoiler. I gotta look to see how they are fasened on though.

Well gents, I spoke with Rex Orr again, but made him an offer this time. I've setup a mailing list for him concerning this spoiler that we all want made. You can sign up for the list at the following link. Its pretty self explanatory.
http://www.thirdgenracing.org/mailma...dgenracing.org
Mailing lists are rather simple. Basically you send an e-mail to the listname and it distributes that e-mail to everyone on the mailing list. Rex will be on this mailing list as well. My hopes are that everyone who wants one of these spoilers, or is interested in them will sign up for the mailing list and voice your opinion on the matter. Im hoping to show that there is demand for it (as if this thread isnt enough). Anyway, please join the mailing list and post, he will hear you.
