Time Your Windows

i got bored and decided to time my power windows, they both go the same speed which came to 4.43 seconds to go up. If anyone else is bored, go time em and post results, even manual window people, lets see how quick you are.

I will time them tomorrow when i go to work, but i know for a fact that my passengers side is much faster because i swapped the motor in it a few months ago. I am just happy that both windows go up and down without any hesitation and or stops in the middle of working.

the windows will rollup/rolldown noticeably faster when the engine is running then when it is not.

when the engine is not running, the alternator is not charging. window motor speed is very dependent on battery voltage.

So the windows might move faster if you give it a little gas...

4.25 seconds drivers side, 6.5 seconds passenger

why is everyones passenger window slower then the drivers??
maybe its all those people sitting in the passenger seat playing around with it...

Well I primitively timed my windows the other day (One... pause... two... pause...) and both take four to five seconds up and around the same down. And here I thought mine were slow...

My Jimmy takes about three seconds a trip. I figured the 'bird was slow since my father's late 90s LSS (Or is it LHS? Whichever one is the GM one...) windows take like two seconds max. You could cut bread with those babies... lol

It's amazing how so many people respond to such a weird topic such as this one but not to other where people need help or questions answered.
driverside:6 seconds
passengerside:4.5

LOL, I went outside to my car just to time them. The GTA: 4 seconds on both sides. The camaro: oh wait, no engine, no battery... no times. But I know the passenger side beats the drivers side by at least a second on that one.
Has anyone read Vader's article on power windows? It tells all about greasing the tracks, and also mentions some little carbon brushes (around where the harness plugs in) that could cause slow moving power windows. Too bad, I think you have to take the motor out to get to them. But I'd do anything to have the windows go up a little faster, 4 seconds seems like forever compared to newer cars where the windows just zip up in like 1.5 seconds.

Got so fired up from reading all these posts that I went out over the weekend and bought some spray white lithium grease and ripped my doors apart and prayed them up really 'white'. I THINK I gained a full second on my times by doing this. Noticed I do still have the original factory motors as they are riveted in.

A little longer for both to go up, but no longer than 4.5 seconds.

Manual windows are faster

1.3 seconds up and down on drivers side (gotta be fast to get a better look at the honey that just drove by)

3 seconds up and down on pasengers side (give me a break, I was leaning over the console cuz lord knows im never in the passenger seat )

Mabye if I go do some window roll up excersises, I could set a record lol

Oh ya, no change when the motor is running , I must not get much power from the alt...although they do go down faster when my stereo is thumpin good

I dunno, having to lean over and crank down the window by hand just doesn't scream "chick magnet" to me.

But hey, you take what you can get.

Automatic windows.
From all the way down, to up, holding both buttons down at the same time (slows them down quite a bit).

Driver side: 4.8 seconds
Passenger: 8.5 seconds

As for rolling windows up and down not being a chick magnet, when my friend and I pull up in his '75 stingray, and roll the windows down, with the t-tops off, we get our attention.

if you think that was the manual windows, lets swap cars, you can put those manual windows on my ride and i'll put my automatic windows on the Stingray. Sounds GREAT to me

I'm not worried in being a magnet, I've got a great girlfriend that I would never cheat on or anything like that. But hey, that doesn't mean I can't look.....

Exactly what I was thinking.

kidcamarosc, does that mean my drivers side window will get a full second faster if I add a "Fear This" or "Powered By Chevy" sticker?

I know where you're coming from.

I think I'm just gonna put NAWZ on my windows, instead of lithium grease. That should do the trick.

no you know what really sucks is having windows that go down and t-tops that leak and when it rains for a long time the water puddles and then when you take off it drips down on your arm if you have the window down and if it's warm water it really feels nasty!

Drivers side 5 sec.

Pass side 0.0 sec.

I was able to optimize my passanger side window with the tweak by busting the window for optimum speed.

What would it cost me to get some power windows installed in my car? Manual if faster, but power is so much cooler .

best time: 7.8 driver
8.2 passenger

mods: rotted out weather strip
started after a good rain
moved the button back and forth acouple times to warm
the window motor before the final run.
cleaned the windows with windex (not the generic stuff)
for a smoother rolling surface, laugh all you want it'll
shave off at least .2 seconds.
