Need help on removing headliner

When you are suppose to remove the top moldings by the doors that are placed on with "christmas tree retainers" you break them off

does anyone know where you buy new ones? and for how much

They should sell them in the help section of the auto parts store.

Dealers have them too, about $11 for a bag of 10.

Welp, you're supposed to pry the a-pillar cover off the a-pillar, they use the plastic door-panel-style clips. Then, you take the whole pillar cover, including the piece that goes over the top of the door, and slide it forward. This releases the a-pillar cover from the headliner.

To reinstall, you're "supposed to" slide the pillar cover back on- trust me, it never works. What I do is take an awl (icepick, sharp pointy thing), and carefully pry those clips out of the roof without snapping them. Then, i slide them into place on the a-pillar cover. Then I snap the a-pillar cover back onto the roof, and finally, push it back onto the windshield (a-pillar).

Know what else works good in those spots? "Binder clips". Pull the headliner tight to each side (left, right, rear) of the headliner board. Clip the headliner cloth to the board, use about 4-5 clips per side. Then squeeze the metal "handles" of the clips and remove them.

Believe it or not, I got compliments on it. People thought I did it on purpose. Go figure!

Tomp,

You sound like you've got a bucket of knowledge on the headliners. Can you try this one for me.. Headliner fabric coming away from the insulation.. (so not the whole lot dropping just the fabric.) I can take off some of the side plastic panels enough to be able to shoot some can adhesive, but I think It'll bleed throught he fabric. Any ideas before I change the thing out?

Thanks,
Paul
