I have to get another hood to fit my 14inch breather on top of my edelbrock 4bbl. I was wondering if anyone has a big block hood on their camaro? I think they look cool.. but I want to know if this hood will give enough clearance for that.

I have the big block hood on my camaro. I have a 14 X 4, non-drop base air cleaner and I still have a few inches of clearence. You should have no problem.

 

Hey, do you have a picture of it? I would like to see what it looks like.. I am having my car jet black.. but wanted to see how it looks.. Everyone seems to want the ss hood.. but I personally like this one.. did you just take everything off of your old hood and put if on on big block.. and what about that black mesh type material that is on the underside to protect your hood from heat..? what did you do there?

The hinges and latch just bolted right on there from my old hood. It was an easy install, just some minor adjusting. I left off the heat insulater stuff, I've had no problems so far. The underside of the hood is finished really well compared to some of the others I've seen.

The pictures arent showing up .. for some reason on my computer.. all I see are two boxes with an X through them. I am probably going to order mine through Hawks.. where did you get yours? How much was shipping.. I think I am going to have mine shipped to Toys R Us, because I work there.. and its cheaper

 

The pictures were showing up earlier, but they aren't showing up on my computer now either. Anyway, I bought mine directly from ASCD. I've had it for a few years, before places like Hawks were around. I've bought a lot of stuff from Hawks though and they are good to deal with. I picked mine up at a car show, so I didn't have to pay shipping.

that doesnt look right to me. Whats the point if no air is going through? If I was you id get a cowl hood since it would benefit you. That hood might look better if it was painted black inside there or something.

 

I dont see the difference offhand. True no air is going through the front.. but the lift in the back to me looks to be the same as the cowl? So what is the difference? I agree that i think it would be better with black on the inside there.. personally i think it would be cool if there was a screen inside there. Maybe a billet chrome screen would be awesome. I wonder if you can custom do that.. Anyway someone elses thoughts..

ss hoods and the big block hoods look great on camaro's!!!
functional or not...

 

The back is open like a cowl, that makes it functional. I also agree that the solid white doesn't look the best. I just haven't decided exactly what I want to do yet. I have seen them with just a hole cut in there, and I don't think that looks right either. If someone knows where I can get some good screen to put in there, I would like to know.

Maybe contact hawks, if you read on there website, under the ram air hood it says 'Add screens for 20" maybe you could find out where he has the screen cuts and ask him if they could custom do it? Just a thought.

 

i think it is possible to make the bb hood functional. if u look at it, u could probably cut the one part around the bulge out and put something like a screen or something in there. just an opinion

 

Yah that is what i was thinking. Now going out on a limb here and hoping..Say you had the opening cut out and the screen in place, would it be posible to make an open/shut type piece behind it that would activate when the accelerator was hit... kinda like on a blower(with the 3 circles on it)... i guess i am kinda dreaming.. but i just think it would be worth it, expecially if it isnt garage kept, like both of mine. I dont know how hard that would be to make and how you would run a cable to it off of the gas... but who knows.. just thought it would be a cool concept.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I wanted to cut it out, hinge it somehow, and hook it up to one of those solenoids that came on some of the older camaros with the cowl hoods or the crossfire hoods. I was just going to run power to it an use a switch to open or shut it. I just haven't tracked down all the parts. I also don't want to mess up my hood so that it has to be repainted. I was hoping noone else would come up with this before me, but its ok I guess. Maybe now I can get some more input or info on where to pick up a solenoid.

 

Sorry to ruin your creativity.. just shows great minds think alike.. I just thought i would be cool and keep out stuff when its sitting outside even with a screen stuff will still be able to get in .. Well if you ever get it going.. let me know
