i'm not talking about just an aluminum guage panel (that would be to easy), i mean the whole dash and console.. i've been looking around and don't really like the flat straight dashes that most people put in, so i'm trying to design one with some good lines in it

Do you mean with the radio bezel and in front of the pass. seat as well? That would most likely be a custom job. I don't know about that, until i see it, i would have to say that it would look like crap. If you go through with it, good luck. I haven't seen one yet! If you are doing it for weight savings, just keep everything out! It would look better i would think.

How would you design an aluminum dash with nice lines?

Here is what I'm working on, still in the thought process, but I want it to be unique, but look like it could be factory, someday it will happen.

I know what you are talking about ... I think. I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my Stang. The Aluminum dash is the lightweight universal racing dash. I forget where you buy them though ... I know you specify size and make your own mounting points, and then mount the guage cluster in it. Wish I could remember the name of the company!!

I don't have any ideas, so I thought I'd try the "funny comments"
Zuckuss: I think you aimed too low for the speedo, and a bit too high for the tach. You should hopefully be able to bury the 120mph speedo, but I'll bet ya a dollar you never bury that tach!

This is zuckuss88gta on brothers computer:
They are the same size my friend had these gauges in his 68 firebird and switched to digital. I plan on making a awhole dash for them and 2 otther gauges and a tv inthe middle.

well what i've come up with so far is something like this |/"""\____| i want to beable to remove it with a 10 point cage in so its going to be in 3 pieces, top; witch will just be a flat plate that covers the top, passenger side; this is just going to be an empty shell to cover the passenger side of the firewall, and the driver side is going to be where the 12 gauges, 3 lights, radio, and other controls will be placed (all facing the driver).
i work with sheet metal all day so building it won't be to big of a problem, but the design is another issue..
any body have some pics of the firewall and mounting areas behind the dash? those could really come in handy

Actually its a picture of my dash & steering wheel while I was sitting in my drivers seat... Keep in mind the the wheel is closer to you than the dash, which will make it look large.
I tried to take a pictue of how it looks that way my wheel will not block what I look at on the dash (I HATE THAT) not seeing my gages because of a poorly layed out dash.
Its EXACTLY the same size as the wheel I have in there now...
