Ticket

Hey, I don't really know where to post this, so here goes:

A couple of days ago I was taking a day trip with my girlfriend into New Hampshire. I was cruising down the highway, with the cruise set at just below 80. At the time, I'd been following two cars, 1 a minivan, and the other a normal 4 door sedan doing the same speed as me (We stayed the same distance apart for about the 10 minutes I was following them, never gained or lost any distance). Anyway the first two cars drove by a cop on the side of the road no brakes or anything, so I figured I didnt have to slow down (Why would he pull me over for going the same speed as them, I thought). Well, they drive by him, and then I did about two seconds later, and he pulls me over, and gives me a ticket for 82 in a 65 ($115). I truly believe he pulled me over and gave me a ticket only because I'm a kid driving a bright yellow camaro. Question is, is there any chance that I could fight the ticket in court? Im definately going, at least to speak my mind about discrimination. But, besides the cop not showing, is there a chance?

Oh...another thing, I got the ticket at 8:10 AM with light traffic (about 7 cars on my side of the highway in seeing range, but he checked off medium traffic). He never gave me a chance to say anything. He just came up to the car and said "license and registration" so I gave it to him, and he said "I pulled yu over because you were going 82 in a 65" and just walked away, and came back with the ticket and said "The directions are on the back" and walked away.

Well just hope he doesn't show up in court.....

Unfortunatly you were breaking the law, although he by law would have to show you the radar saying 82 mph, since you mentioned you were below 80, but it's a little to late now.....

Just hope he doesn't show up, or you can do community service instead...

I got a reckless driving ticket for $149 and i had to do 14 hours of community service or pay the fine.......you can guess which one i did....

Laws are different in different states. First, the myth that it is the law that they must show you the radar reading. That is not always the case. Here in Illinois, they can if they want to, but they are not obligated to do so. I'm not sure about the law in MA. Also, community service may not be an option. In Illinois, we can either plead guilty and pay the fine, plead guilty, pay the fine plus $30 and take a 4 hour traffic school class (8 hours second offense), or take it to court. In your case, you were breaking the law no matter what. Thats why you try never to be the last guy in a row of cars doing over the limit Stay in the middle and you are usually alright.

Hey

A funny story, I was pulled over a long time back and the officer pointed out that it's tough to have my type car (350 Formula) and not get a lead foot. I'm sure they have the hots on for younger drivers with sporty carz!

hehe

I also drove by a cop on the freeway and he pulled me over and asked me what I thought he was doing out there...

After the fact I thought of many funny responses you don't want to say out loud, in person!
Anyway, don't pass a cop if you can help it, be extra cautious!!
My friend suggested contesting in court, I think he pulled it off on a traffic infraction... maybe the cop didn't show... I don't remember!

hehe

You got the ticket because he finally woke up by his radar alert and saw you. Just Bad Luck.

I got a ticket in Virgina Beach, VA just before I drove back to CA to deploy on my ship.

I was doing 90 over a bridge and I just caught his tail lights in the right lane as I was coming over the top. I eased off on the accelerator and throttled down just behind in left quarter. He dropped in behind me and lit me up.

I told him that I dropped my drink and it rolled under my brake pedal, which is true, and I had to lean forward to reach it, thus increasing my speed.

He cut me some slack and only wrote me for 74 in a 55. 19mph over the limit and just under a wreckless charge in VA. He gave me a hint that he was quitting the department in 2 months. He also didn't write me for my radar dectector either.

I deployed before the court date so I got a deferment until I get back. I will call and see if he is still with the department when I get back.

Stay tuned.

heres a pretty funny story: a little while back my friend( who has an 86 T.A.) was going down the free way (speeding of course) behind another car (who was also speeding of course) and a cop pulled out behind them and flipped on the lights well somhow my friend eased in front of the other car and then they both pulled over on the exit ramp (which is on my friends street) then as soon as the cop got out of his car my friend took off pulled into his driveway and ran in the house the other car got a ticket and my friend got away clean!:hail:

Go a buddy that was leading a minivan going at least 85-90, they passed a cop and the cop pulled over the minivan.. My friend was driving a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo... I think they go after whoever is in the rear... easer to catch...

Of course this is also the same guy that got a ticket going from his garage to a carwash 800' away...the cop clocked him at 90Mph.. Its a FAST car...

OF course I have seen a string of cops pull over several cars at once...

Last in line = first to stop. I had the same thing happen to me, but I was driving the g-friend's 89 Lebaron Convertible (Silver w/ black top and only 4 cyl). Driving the f-bod didn't help, but I hardly think it was the only reason. You could go and attempt to fight it based on keeping with the flow of traffic, but the long and short of it, just like me, you were breaking the law.

Good Luck!

If you were to ask the cop why he pulled you over, when 2 other cars were going the same speed, I would bet he would tell you its because he got to you first.

I agree with everyone who sais that you were breaking the law, you should reap the consequences...

Thats a risk that we choose to make, and when we get caught thats the way it is... like it or not.

If you speed and get away with it thats just lucky...

BUT when you speed and get a ticket... you do not have a place to get upset about it...

sorry...

very true, last in line first to stop!!

i was going 40 something in a 30 and the car in front was going way faster however i had just got behind him, he must of been traveling 56 because i got pulled over for going 56 in the 30 not him!!

o well same price/ponts for a 40 something vs. 56!

i took it to court and got the full fine but no points!

Wrong place wrong time.

1976 was the last time I got a ticket for speeding. At that time the speed limit was 55 all over. Driving down the hi-way this lady in a Caddy blew by me like I was sitting still. About the same time the local sheriff was driving down the other side of the hi-way. He locks up the brakes and slides across the median sidways with the lights and siren on. I had to swerve to the shoulder to keep from being slammed into. He pulls up behind me and was writing the ticket as he ran up to the car. He commences to read me the riot act on the rules of the road. When I ask him what about the Caddy that blew by me he acted like he thought I was crazy. He said he clocked me at 87 but he was going to give me a break and only wrote 65.
Here's the best. 6 months later a cop in Corpus Christi sitting in the parking lot of my old high school on a saturday morning clocked me at 47 in a 45. Gave me the ticket, so I ask to see the radar and he said he had already cleared it. I ask him how he shot the radar through the chain link fence? He ask me if I was some kind of a damn radar expert and I said, yes I was and you can't shoot radar through a fence. He told me to get out of here. Went to court, cop didn't show up but the judge said Boy, the law is the law, pay the fine.

I once got radared doing about 70 in a 55. CHP gave me a break and wrote me up for only 65 in the 55 zone. It was on one of those long straight downhill grades on Hwy 49 in the gold country. The friggin' fine was over $150 for only 10 over. Jeez....

Cops who write tickets for only 2 or 3 over the limit are *********.

I got caught doing 76 in a 65 in OHIO of all places, only had to pay $65 bucks for the ticket... Luckily Insurance never found out, so all I had was the ticket to pay for... I live in MI and it did not transfer to MI, not to mention I could contest to the fact that I got pulled over on the Turn Pike, which in OH is Privately owned.

Its like getting a ticket in a shopping mall, the police usually have no jurisdiction, at least in MI, they will not even come out and give a report in a parking lot. The problem is when you consider that Laws were passed to put up every stop sign and street light on public streets... To my knowledge there is usually no law passed for a small stop sign in a parking lot, therefore I slow for them but don't stop unless there is someone else coming.

Otherwise I could put up 30 stop signs and a speed limit sign on my driveway and have the police give people tickets for my 60 feet before my garage...

Can you shoot radar through a chain link fence? Yes, you can. 47 in a 45 is kinda chicken ****. Must have been a rookie or just a real jerk.

In Texas you don't have to show the violator your radar display unless there is a departmental policy that says different. As a matter of fact, when asked it just sounds sarcastic and upsets the cop. Texas Highway Patrol has a policy that says they don't lock the violators speed and therefore don't have it to show.

Radar is actually supposed to be used to VERIFY the officers observation and speed estimate of the vehicle in question. And yes, after a little practice you can look at a vehicle and estimate the speed within 2 mph and be accurate.

Just my .02

Radar can go through the fence, but the return will be nothing but splatter. "not reliable"
I have learned this fact in the 22+ years working on all kinds of radar. Any low power radar will reflect back off of any metal. Yeah, 47 in a 45 is BS. This rotund, donut eating cop had attutude when he got out of his car. Up until 1997 in Texas the reading had to stay on the indicator until after the process was over. I did not have attitude when I ask to see, I was polite about it.

Car: Camaro of course
My experience with this is:1) dont be a ***** and plead guilty, 2) ask for the calabration records on the gun e used (if it hasent been calbrated sines the 60's than just you can say that it was unjust) 3) call the police, not 911, but the head police building (like in you live in CA you would call the head office in Scaremento) and get all the information you can on the cop. If he has a record of being liberal with the ticket book you can use that. If this takes extra time you can ask the judge for a countinunce. It also helps if you have a lawyer.

#1. Get a lawyer. Yeah it sucks because it's expensive, but it's cheaper than having those points on your license.

Um... wait... there's no #2...

This is what i do...

I goto court and don't BS or lie about ANYTHING ... I tell the magistrate what he wants to hear "you were speeding?" "yes sir its my fault im sorry" ... they then get FLOORED by your honesty and let you off easy for it

just my 2 cents

Tickets

Every morning there is a cop near the local high school pulling people over, I mean lots of people! I'd say 3-4 people a day. Well, I was no-where near the 20mph zone yet, and the cop was there, writing up someone's ticket. I cruised by doing about 35 in the 45 zone. I get to work (in the same town) and he pulled in behind me. I locked my doors, got out and started walking in to the building. He says "What's up slick?" and I looked blankly at him. I asked him what I did and he said that I knew already. He took my licence and registration and came back with a ticket that said the following:

Speeding over reason
Harsh noise from muffler

The ___mph in a ___mph zone was blank, and he came up with the random number of $75 to charge me. $50 for the muffler also. Can he do that? Doesn't he have to state how fast I was going and how fast the limit is? I contested it, but no word yet... probably because I'm a 19 yr old in a spray-painted black Iroc that has #'s written on the windows from the local track...?

hey i would definitely fight the ticket. chance are you'd win. he improperly filled out the ticket by leaving parts blank and bull****ting you. was your car parked at the time he approached you. i have never heard of speeding over reason but there is a too fast for conditions they can always screw you with. but i would definitely fight that one. Major discrimination!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 tickets in 2 days...halloween sux

First ticket was goin to school on halloween, 34 in a 20, I didnt know it was a school zone...then I got pulled over that night for loud exaust, written warning(it was broke, come to find out, somone put the cat on backwards and it kept slipping off the Y-pipe, but thats a different story). Next night raced a ford truck 3 times (won all 3 too ), and then got pulled over by an unmarked state trooper and his speech translated into "I didnt get you on radar but if you dont sign the ticket I'll take you to jail for reckless driving" so I signed. $110 for the school zone and $90+$10 for the speeding and he wrote me for no seat belt.

Oh, and the last in line thing is BS in KS anywayz... If there is a line of speeders the cop will pull up next to each one and wave them all to the side of the road and give them all tickets. They also have the camera things. And use helicopters if they feel spunky. I don't like KS.

I was pulled over in a group of 4 cars, the motorcycle cop pulled all of us over on the highway

Ended up getting a 73 in a 55 (the highway was 75 everywhere except that one 2 mile stretch of road which was under construction) Also, there was no way I was doing 73 because my car woulda vibrated real bad, and it was only a mild vibration. Bah
