Well, insurance rates vary by state, so I can't really help you there. But when I got my first ticket (50 in a 25... not pretty), my insurance company kinda tucked it in the bottom of the pile. We've got 2 houses, 5 cars, and other odds and ends insured under them (they're a little private co.), so they really couldn't afford to lose us.... Talk about power
And by the way, don't feel too bad... I lost my license for 6 months and had to go to driving school for my ticket...

Don't fall apart you haven't lost yet . Chalange the ticket go to court speeding is difficult to prove how where you clocked was it radar or at timed trap or was it by the police car behind you it makes a differance I have beaten all three but you have to know how there coming after you and what your state law is.
Well My court date is feb.23 and he got me on radar.I was going one way and he passed me in the other lane going the other way and did a big *** u-turn and hit the blue lights. My friend who was riding w/me said prolly that i passed a cop b4 and he radioed to the other one and said get ready for me.I prolly passed the first one at about 95.I told the cop my tranny was slipping and had to let off and floor it so it would shift.I know its stupid but i was panicing. What should i tell the court when they ask why i was speeding?Should i say my tranny was slipping?
Thanks for any info,And how do i beat this one?

Damn and I thought my friend getting pulled for 98 in a 65 yesterday was bad! Get this he didn't even get a ticket. Turns out the cop knew him from college and let him off. On the same trip coming back he got pulled for 66 in a 55 and got off again! Just got a verbal warning the 2nd time. Talk about one lucky dude!

GO TO DRIVING SCHOOL!! If you go to the "school" there will be no points issued to your record. "School" varies from state to state but there will never be points issued. Next time you get a ticket though you can not go to school. It is a one time thing each year. If you challenge the ticket you waive your right to go to school-you'll lose anyways

I got my first ticket in november heres what happend so far
The cop says i did a 66 foot burn out with 4 people in my car at 15 mph when he wasent any where near. How the hell can a V-6 with 4 people do a 66 Foot burn out at 15 mph i dono.
2 he says the speed limit in the parking lot is 10MPH.
So on december 19th i went to court pled not guilty and got a public defender.
On jan 19th i went to court and had a second chance to plea guilty or not guilty i pled not guilty. so they arrand me and im out on 100 dollars bail lol
So on FEB 16 I have a frekin jury trial for the ticket and i have 2 witness commin and a letter cuz i had new tires and when i turned they scretched. Also the pictures he took were of another cars were i was parked there were 10 different burn outs some with posi im hopein the one he took shows posi. and this friday im gonna take pics. Also he has in the police report that im "associated" with the street racers and i race lol yes i go there to wacth but i dotn race has he seen me race nope.
now heres my question any thing i can do to prove my self innocent. also since its a jury trial is the cop susposto show up cuz i herd sometimes coops dont show up for tickets.

I've done a 60ft one (one wheel, of course) with just my bro in the car, but never even went over 5mph.... Of course, powerbraking is almost an art form, and I've just about mastered it (in my opinion)... Not bad for a 2.8 w/ big ol' BFG 225s on it

If i did a 66 foot burnout i would be jumpin for joy especialy with 4 people in the car and a full tank of gas and subs in the trunk. I would frame the ticket lol and be prould of it if i really did it. I should be like judge heres the keys if you can do a 66 foot burnout at 15mph ill give you my car and licence
Not to be a A$$ but whats the tranny slipping got to do with speed? If you go infront of that judge and tell em you were speeding because your tranny was slipping he/she is gonna laugh you out of the court room. Besides IF your tranny was slipping i doubt it would carry your car that far over the posted limit. rather slow down so you and your car aren't a danger to you and others if it had a problem. And theres no excuse for breaking a posted limit, the judge will tell ya both point blank. Go in there and say oppsss my bad, won't happen again and at best say i didn't think i was going that fast, when i saw the cop i was going 6 miles hour over the posted limit.... Ask to see the radar proof but don't push/lie to the judge... above all be polite, LISTEN and be humble. BTW another hint.... Wear slacks, a nice collar shirt, a tie and polished shoes with a belt. Don't go in there in jeans and stuff.... The judge can and will hit ya with the max to get you out of his/her court room if you play games....

Red's right.. if you got tagged doin more than 20 over there's no excuse gonna get you out of it.. especially after you told the cop one thing that was totally inappropriate. I probably would have plead guilty on that one.. My only ticket was for Exhibition of Speed, and I had numerous reasons to fight it.. mostly because it's the vaguest law I've ever read (In the Arizona Revised Statutes ALL it says that applied was "You shall not participate in an exhibition of speed") and the ticked said 25 in a 45 with a reasonable and prudent of 45.. found out in court it means basically don't go around breaking traction.. my bad. 175 bucks, no possibility for commercial driver's license, and if I do it again mandatory 10 day jailtime... was funny though.. cop said I had my tires squealing for 5 seconds.. *cough* v6 with 150 lbs of speaker equipment?! I still haven't gotten the fine fully paid off.. but it's not bad considering the max was 750..

You guys should all go get Alex Carrol's book "Beat the Cops". It tells you how to talk to the cop, what to do (and not to do) when you're pulled over, and how to fight your ticket in court yourself.
I didn't use the book too much to fight my own ticket; when I got a 65 in a 50 I got a lawyer. (The cop gave me a crappy attitude when I didn't give him one- I was ticked.) But it's very useful for knowing what to do and not to do (admit guilt!) when you're pulled over.

The best way to learn how to deal with the cops is from experience. I've been pulled over probably 10-15 times, for speed and equipment violations mostly. I've found if you don't make a big deal about it and talk to the cop like you would a friend, they usually let you go with a warning.
If you try to talk them out of a ticket by making excuses, they almost always will give you a ticket. (you broke the law, you know it and the cop knows it. It's no use trying to convince them otherwise)
-Patrick
1 accident and 6 speeding tix in 3 years of driving.

Ive been pulled over 17 times and this is my first ticket. I told the cop the truth the only reason he gave me it im sure is becasue of were i was with the street racers so i was pretty much in his eye guilty by association i guess youd say. He kept insisting i race when i didnt and i told him and i told him what happend and he didnt belive me. Then he goes off on how they r gonna tow my car and arrest me and search my car trying to scare me he was flat out rude. Then he says if i were you plead guilty it will be easier that even told me he knew i really didnt do anything wrong if i did somethin wrong id take full responsibility for it
If it's your 1st ticket, it probably would be easier to talk to the judge and plead guilty, but request a reduced fine (in CA that works most of the time). Then do traffic school to have the point removed from your record.
Successfully getting a not guilty verdict can be tough, and if you do plead not guilty and lose, it's tougher to get a reduced fine, etc.

"I got caught doing 87 in a 55 "
Okay, everyone get real.
There is no way, nor a reason, to "beat the cop" or the ticket. No excuse for 87 in a 55. This isn't a burnout in a parking lot or a couple miles over the limit, or playing the boombox too loud.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

I'm not saying I'm better ( I've done over 120 in a loaded semi in a 55 ) or I know more than you. I'm saying I've driven over 700,000 miles in the past 7 years alone. In that time I've had two (2) tickets and got them both lowered on the side of the road just by being polite and not getting and attitude. I've also gotten oout of more than 15 others the same way. The best way out is not to get one at all.
87 in a 55... Tranny was slipping... had to do it... sorry judge... lmao

Yeh, almost all of us own third gen fbodies.. it doesn't mean we're all out to break the law. And it certainly doesn't mean we can help you get out of something like this (sorry, but finding a way to get a 'not guilty' verdict out of this would be like trying to make $1,000,000 US on the stock market in 1 year with $100 starting capital). You've already made a fatal mistake by telling the cop your trans was slipping, and that's why you were doing 22 over.. when your trans is slipping, you use your freakin pinky toe to press the pedal unless you want to shred your clutches and/or bands on the spot. Going into court and changing this to another BS excuse simply won't work, and you'll lose even more credibility in the eyes of the judge. You have to remember the cop will probably be there.. and if not his report WILL be there, and your trans slippage thing will be known to the judge.
When you break the law you accept the possibility that you're going to get caught and be punished accordingly. You definitly don't try to BS out if it, cuz 9/10 times you're just going to get a heavier punishment.

You can fight the ticket.....Because there is no way that a radar can work if both cars are driving towards each other. THe only way it will work is if the cop is at a complete stop. Damn the laws of physics. And if it was a speed trap, and another cop caught you with the radar and radioed another cop they cant bust you cause the cop that pulled you over has no proof of how fast you were going cause he didn't have the radar gun.....and in court your innocent until proven guilty. SO it's their job to prove you were speeding, but they have a problem....they don't have any proof. Well that's how I got out of my 100 in a 65.

I know but its a Jury trial so they have to select a jury lol and its a misderminer too the ticket says i was doin 15 in a 10 mph lol and the ticket says exabition of speed lol. Every one ive talked to says 15 is the safe speed in a parkinglot. Oh ya he also put in the report that pedestrians were around unless you call a tree a pedestrian i must be goin blind.

And "if i cant do the time, dont do the crime" what the hell is that? Were all one big f-body loving "family" and are sposed to help each other outta $hit not say "you f u c k i n g dumb@ss"
</font>
Nope, didn't say "you f u c k i n g dumb@ss" or anything like it.
And I did suggest what you should do in court. Since you've done the crime already, do the time. Just an expression - although at your age in many states the 'time' you might do may well be a few months hoofing it while your license is suspended.
Absolutely nothing you can say will ever convince me that there is a justifiable reason for doing 87 in a 55 zone on a public street. It's wrong and dumb.
Do you happen to know the #1 cause of death for Americans between 15-20 years old?
Yup - auto accidents.
I come to this site for the same reason most people do - to find answers and help and to offer them when I can. It's been 25 years since the last time I rebuilt an engine or hopped up a car, so my ability to provide tech support is limited at the moment.
But I've got a lot of years of driving, tons of miles and a bit of life under my belt. So I offer what I can. Here's the best piece of advice I can offer you (reworded so hopefully you won't react so belligerantly this time):
Take responsibility for every one of your actions and decisions.
None of us is perfect - we all make mistakes. Learning from our mistakes and accepting both the responsibility for them and the result they bring on is how we learn and grow, as people.
Yeah sorry i went so crazy.I just have never gotten a ticket b4 i dont really know what to expect and what all the judge will ask me.But right now im so tired of hearing bout it i dont give a rats *** and want to go ahead and get it over with and forget bout it

Well, if you want to contest it in court, here is a strategy. For the police officer to register your speed the radar has to be calibrated to a known speed to measure your vehicle's speed. You just need to state that his radar wasn't set right or something along those lines. It is simple physics in effect. that'll hold up much better than a slipping tranny.

I just toght of somethin he says i burnt out well on the ticket it says i was doin 15 i know for a fact he didnt shoot the gun at me because a he was around the corner and 2 he asked how fast i was goin and i said 10 15 max bein honest so 1 more argument to add to my carse 8 days til victory i hope
uh not to flame anyone but uh you guys are stupid. 1 take resposnibility, 2 be nice, if you openly admit to what you did when he first asks you they are a lot more forgiving than if you try to lie to him and change your story later trust me i went on job shadowing thing with some cops
3 if you really want to lie it up tell the judge that radar guns are only effective at an angle to your car... head to head and from behind the reading is extremly unaccurate(why do you think they set up speed traps)so if he passed you on the other side of the road then he's S.O.L.
other wise if he saw you hauling *** inbetween cars and passing people at an obviously fast speed then uh your S.O.L.

Boy, ya know, the one time I decide to speed on a highway in a long time- First I zipped by an '86 Camaro. I wasn't racing, so I didn't really look over, but it looked like the kid was giving me the "slow down" sign (hand raising and dropping, palm flat). I didn't think anything of it, then I cut right to pass a black car. I saw there was a truck in my way, so I went to get behind the black car again- and he came to almost a stop, so I went in front of him. He zipped up on my right and stayed there - I thought it was weird, so I looked over- A cop in full uniform! #(^@!! He glared at me, I thought I was screwed, so I got into the right lane. Apparently I was out of his jurisdiction, because he made a big u-turn and left.
With all this talk about tickets, you think I wouldn't have bothered to speed.. it's always that "one time", eh? Woah. Anyway, I think I'll resume my speed-limit driving for a few years again
