OK i know i have posted this before, but i got a picture that will help, look at the pics and tell me where these wires go. In my sweet chiltons it doesnt show the wiring for it

That black wire with a ring terminal (actually it SHOULD have a ring terminal at both ends) goes from the 10mm bolt holding on the hatch release solenoid to the common ground location below the hatch pull-down unit. This provides the ground for the hatch release sloenoid. Otherwise the solenoid would be isolated from ground by the plastic guides of the pull-down unit. The red/white stripe with is positive 12v source for the pull-down unit and attaches to the blue wire with either a large white plastic terminal (86-87) or small black terminal (88-91). The only other connector to deal with it the other black wire with a plastic termination. It attaches to the hatch release solenoid. This all presumes you have good wiring in the hatch pull-down unit itself. I'll e-mail you 6 pages of scans from my 88 HELMS manual.
