Is there a way to get the button out of the shift ****????

Ok, I looked at some of the stuff people had painted on here, and I saw one I liked. It was the square shiftknob painted white, but the button was left black. I just took mine off, but I don't think I can get the button out... is there a way that I'm just not seeing right now, or am I gonna have to tape over the button and then paint it? I'm messing with painting some of my interior pieces since they're pretty ratty anway.... Thanks.

yah it comes out. pull the black cover off, twist the button 90 degrees and it comes out. dont loose the spring. there is a c-clip holding the handle on. use a flat head screwdriver to get it out. its located on the side facing the radio.

The black cover on the **** you depress comes off easily, just use a pic or screwdriver to pry it up. Then depress the **** itself, and the key will remain high. Twist the key 90 degrees, it comes out, then remove the **** & spring. Now you can remove the shifter handle itself, remove the C clip (staple looking thing) and it will pull right off.
