Squeak/Squeal/Scrape noise
I've had 5 thirdgens in my life (so far). Every single one of them made the subject line type of noise. It sounds like it comes from the drivers side dash. Has anyone else had this noise? It's pretty loud when going over bumps.
Anyone figure out what causes it?

Well, a squeak and scrape are two very different things. My car creaks and squeaks, but I plan on fixing that with SFCs sometime.

I have new shocks and struts. I don't believe it to be suspension related. It sounds like it's actually IN the car.
It's a hard sound to explain. it almost sounds like wood with a heavy load on it being pushed on sealed concrete. (used to work on a receiving dock)

have you checked for the infamous crack where the steering box bolts up, my SC had it, and I think my IROC might, despite the wonderbra

Just a suggestion that could be a pretty simple fix.... I had the same noise in my 87 TA... Sounded like a really loud creaking noise. Cant be produced by any other means other than driving... But one day I was putting my hood up and I heard it. So with the hood halfway up, i kind of jiggled it, and it would make the noise certain ways I would move it. My hood hinges have some play in them, and the shocks were bad. I replaced the shocks, and packed some white lithium grease in the hinges, and it went away. been about 4 months and I havent heard it. Just something simple to check out before you tear into anything big..

is it a creak/squeak that gets louder and faster as you drive? if so it may be your speedo cable. mine did that alot. so i ripped it out lubed it up and shoved it back in, havent heard it since.. another thing is it may be your windows, if they arent all the way up when you hit a bump it may kinda smack it.

These cars sure do make a lot of noise.
I've replaced my hood shocks and packed the hinges with lithium grease earlier this year so I guess that's not it.
It doesn't matter how fast I'm going the noise is the same. It only happens over the worse bumps.
I don't have t-tops
This is driving me up the wall. I'm about to tear my whole dash out to find this gremlin. It makes my baby sound cheap.

oooh... if its coming fromy uor dash i have a few easy suggestions.. the stock air ducts sometimes break and rattle.. i had to wrap all my air ducts in some material to dampen the sound and that helped alot. maybe that will work.. if its within the speedo cluster it may be your speedo cable. for that remove and clean it, use white lithium grease to put it back. dont listen to anyone who says brake caliper grease works cause it dont!
