bench seat?

i got this idea the other day looking at a chevy high performandce mag. what do yall think about taking out the console, installing a floor shifter (automatic), and putting in a 60/40 bench with two buckets, like in the lightnings? i think it owuld be badass, but want some opinions.

I think the transmission 'hump' will be too tall. The top of the tunnel is an inch or two higher than the top of the seat cushion. You could put a bench seat in, but you'd be squished in to the celing.

Buckets rock why would you put a bench in? you would slide all over it in the corners, no lateral support.

My Safari Wagon had a bench seat, and a column shifter, too. One of the benifits to this setup is that your girl can sit right next to you, in the 'middle seat' Very usefull for cruising, drive-ins, parking, etc.
Damn, I miss that car...

Having a bench in a thirdgen.. well thats questionable. Bench's were good for sex, and little else. If thats your hope, then let me tell you of the beauty of 4th gen seats.

1. They bolt in to thirdgen with no modifications
2. They look better than a bench, or stock thirdgen seats
3. They FULLY recline
4. If you have T-tops, then being on the prowl is all the more easier. (tops down + full recline = many possibilities)

Ive actualy seen a bench seat in a older camaro 85' I think, it was at a swapmeet /car corral. The guy said it came out of a 90 something chevy s10 and fit with very little mods cause they have a hump built into the center section of the seat. It was the 60/40 buckets with the lumbar suport and all that, It didnt look to bad, but I didnt get a chance to sit in it to see if it felt right or not. All in all not something I would do to my car though.

I actually think a bench seat with some old covering material would look pretty neat in like a show car that was maybe a retro style. but for everyday bleah I barely have any support at all with my seats now.
