Need to replace the speedometer bulb

What the best way tp replace that bulb in a 92 z/28? Do I have to remove the dash first, or take off the plastic piece in front of the gauges? What's the best approach? And how many bulbs are back there? Thanx for your help......

You have to take the dash apart to get to it. It's a pain, I had to take the lower knee cover off, take out the headlight ****, pull the cover off the front of the cluster, take out 4 screws and the cluster will come out, but I also had to take the dashpad off too because I could not get the cluster past the steering wheel with the pad in place, it's real tight between the steering wheel and the dash. There are several bulbs on the back of the cluster, they just twist out, I would replace all of them while your there. You might want to protect the clear cover on the cluster because it would be easy to scratch it getting it out.

yeah the whole dash has to come apart. There are only four bulbs back there though if I remember correctly. replacing them all is a pretty good idea

I think 194s or 161s will both fit, but 194s are brighter. I put 194s in mine without a problem. You can use the colored ones if deisired. But remember that they shine through a sort of yellow, which may alter to color.
