finished luxury molded door panel swap!
Heres a pic of before (top) and after (bottom). This project was a bear! But I think they look a lot more sporty than the regular style. I recoved the middle fabric section with the same black material as the headliner, kickpanels, and sailpanels.
You MUST get the arm rest bracket from the donor car. That was the pain really because I drilled out all those darn rivets broke about 5 bits. Then I just use screws and nuts to put the new one on. You gotta move the top piece as well.
Its not perfect but I think they look pretty good!

Looks much cleaner. I like it. The original didn't quite seem to flow with the overall design of the car. Even though it was original. ^_^

Correct me if I am wrong, but in order to actually do it RIGHT, you need to also change the door leaver... Because there is an extra bracket to screw in the plastic trim piece.

thanks fellas!!
this door panel i *believe* was available as a "luxury" trim on TAs after 87, and may have come standard on the GTAs. not sure tho. i found mine in the boneyard, $24. hehe.
okfoz, you are correct, there is a screw under the firebird emblem on the new panel. you would need the correct door pull to use it BUT i found it unneccessary to hold the panel on. the fronts got a tab and the middle has a screw so it stays fine (i was happy about that).

I found a set, and I was going to take them in BLACK no less, and I could have gotten them for $15 for the pair, but I him-hawed, and when I came back a few weeks later, some IDIOT brke them to pieces trying to get some small insignificant screw out of the door.
FOUND a second set at a boneyard up north, and the guy wanted $75 EACH, when I called him back he said $100 each, I told him to keep them...

looks nice; clean as well...........any close up pics??
i know i'd really like to do a newer door panel of such, i've been playing with quite a few different models; just wish i knew how to work with fiberglass as i would just make my own.
looks good though, much better than original!

thanks kandied,
you can peel the vinyl off the cardboard mold. i actually did that then used trim adhesive to put it back on. it takes some pulling work but eventually works. you could do that and reupholster with new material. what i mean is, the molded board underneath would still be good for you to use instead of making your own with fiberglass. just an idea.

everyone starts somewhere........i wish i had known about this site and similar ones like this when i first got my car. i'm willing to bet this site would have saved me 2-3,000 alone through trial and error of my own.
very helpful place, just remember there is always someone out there with a bigger, better, faster, all around nicer car. build it to your tastes and you'll be happy.
