T-top storage solution (need pics)

If anyone could shoot a couple of pics for me of their hatch area (stock, please), I want to start working on a solution to the t-top bag. Probably a fiberglass/wood connoction that would allow me to firmly store the tops like the 4thgen models.

I'm asking for pics because I don't have a Camaro yet.

Thanks

My car's out in storage right now but what I did, since I think that "The Bag" was one of the dumber things GM ever made was went to Lowes (Or Home Depot or whatever is in your town, we have 2 Lowe's a Menards and just got a Home depot like a month ago...)

2 10' sections of PCV pipe
4 Corners that fit that size pipe
2 "T"s that fit that size
PVC Glue
Pipe insulation that firts the size pipe you buy

See where this is going yet?

Cut 3 sections that are about 33-36" long (can't remember it was this summer), 2 that are about 4", and 2 that are about 6". The offset helps fitment, at least it did to me.

Put it all together like this:

----------------------------------
|........................................|
----------------------------------
|........................................|
----------------------------------
(Ok this spacing isn't working once its posted... the .s are just empty space for the sake of getting it to not get automatically formatted a certain way)

Make sure it all fits and then glue it together.
Stick a piece of thin foam rubber on your well floor. Inset T-tops in whatever way fit, I kept mine with the handles in and the top facing twords me as I set them in. Finagle with it, you'll find a way to get them to sit in there. And if you put it together right, they won't move. I ran it this way all summer and still have it, but like I said the car is out in storage right now. But if anyone is absolutely dying to see it I'll grab it the next time I'm out there and bring it home.

I'm sure you guys are smart enough to be able to build your own from what I've said, PVC is cheap and easy to work with. Just kinda gotta take a look at what you're doing and have an end result in mind before you start. It cost me a total of like $7 for the tubes and padding, I didn't glue it together but wish I did, it sometimes popped apart from just being pressed together.

yea HrdRockA4305, you definately need to get pics of that when you get your car back... because the whole bag is really a pain.

Alright, I'll take some digi-pics next time I'm out there. Probably around the end of the week, I gotta get a car cover and put it on since its gonna be sitting a month or 2. While I'm out, I'll take a pic of the "rack" by itself and with the tops sitting in it.

someone a while ago was making something like a 4th gen t-top holder. It was a big discussion of weather or not the T's would fit all the way down in the well.

Never found out how that went.

I never had problems with my bag. Once the Tee's were in the bag and strapped into place they never moved or anything. I do suggest that if you end up with a bag you get the zipper one. Now as far as the well thing it is a good idea until you put subs in this spot. That is the delima I have now because I can't strap the Tees in anymore. Probably headed to the back seat. In fact I am going to the audio board to see what they do in that situation.

Say I think this is my 1000 post and it's Xmas day. I learned a lot about 3rd gens in those 1000 post. Happy Holidays to all.

This is gonna sound dumb, but...

How am i supposed to put my tops in that bag and have the velcro meet up properly? when i used it in the summer, i could never get the velcro to meet, so i have to use a pin to hold it closed (i got my Z28 about 2 weeks into August, so i was new at the time, hehe)

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Are you putting the tops in oposite directions.? In other words put the big black area that has the handle and locks in it in oposite directions in the bag. This will make them fit in the bags.

I switched to a zipper bag from a velco one because it closed and stayed secured better.

Anybody remember these? I never did see an actual pic of them.

An old regular was making these about 4 or 5 years ago and selling them. Saw a lot of positive comments, just no pics...

DMN, i'm w/ you.. mess w/ the back seats... or.. if you really wanna mess w/ stuff, mess w/ the gas tank, move it, or go to a smaller... i hold like.. 20+ gallons, and well, as much as i need that, & love that.. i'd rather go to like a straight out 20.. hopefully a bit smaller, if you could do that, might be able to shave off alittle space, and modify the car's body, and make a space for them there, where the gas tank is at, or.. behind the back seats.. but you have to take into consideration, they aren't flat.. they are curved... kinda dommed, & well, they could be hard to work with, i'd be worried about them breaking... though, i've hit these things on my car several times getting them in/out.. nothing ever happens. i love them.

Another thing.. you know how it's so dang hot when the sun's out.. cuz of T-Tops.. what about making covers for it, that you like... put below the t-top windows.. & it just stays there.. so no sun comes in & heats you & everything else up.. that way the AC can actually do it's job. Anyone experiment w/ that before?
