I think in the trunk compartment would be too far away to be useful. But then again anywhere that's "useful" also seems to be "in the way".

Check out this one.

Whatever you do, don't put it there.

1. It looks Ryce
2. Everybody and their mom wants some at stop lights
3. It screams "pull me over" to the cops
4. Coming to an abrupt stop can suck if its not securely fastened.

Far be it from me to bash on anyones car.... but it looks whack.

Even if the fire extinguisher is securely fastened to the a-pillar, there is a high probability that it will break loose from the fasteners and become airborne in a collision.

I'm thinking of bolting mine to the floor right behind the front passanger seat. That way I can reach it fairly easy.

bubba, your idea is clean and sleek. A guy could paint his extinguisher the same color as his interior and it might almost fall into place right there.

IN the picture of omni's car that F.E. looks mean i can understand why the ricers wanna race.

Is this a fashion accessory or something to keep your car from going up in flames and maybe your cornfedass with it.

well of course the pupose of the fire extinguisher is to put out a fire if one ever does happen ::knocking on wood:: but its also gotta look good too
well my parents bought me one for xmas and it is a little big......so i am taking the a b c one out of our camper because it is a lot smaller and nicer.....
the all painted one is from jcwhitney....in the import car section....but the price is a little steep for me for a fire extinguisher....50 bucks!

They should run 20 bux or so...maybe less in the US.
I picked one up for my car shortly after hearing about Bob M's GTA catching fire and burning, and him being helpless to do anything but watch it burn in front of his eyes; at least with one, a person stands a chance of extinguishing it.
Look for one with a higher BC rating (like 2A-10BC) for automotive usage.....and read the instructions before you need to use it!

I'd say use the larger one because once I put out a fire for some assclown who had wrapped a blanket round his carb - who knows why - but anyway it was burning real good and all I had was one of those small fire bottles. There was just enough to put it out and I remember thinking that if this pig blows I'm gonna get some nice burns.

It occured to me later why didn't I just give him the damn extinguisher and let him go at it but he was a slack jawed dolt who probably couldn't have found his a$$ with both hands and a flashlight never mind put out a fire.

IMO personal opinion, that $50 should be spent to get the car in good condition so you don't have to worry about fires....

Anyhow keep it discreet, i know that's not my style since i have a big spoiler out back..........BUT a chrome fire extinuisher looks out of place when it's in plain view.....

Maybe incorporate it into the top part of the folding rear seats....

That way in case of a fire, just throw down the seat, and there ya go right in front of you, and in non-emergencies it's hidden in the back.....

Just my .02

In my personal opinion you could also just hang the $50 on a string around your neck for good luck - that way you'd never have have to worry about fires for sure.

$50 is cheap as hell! Take a look in Summit. I am almost positive that there are ones in there for over $200. Remember, some are not legal to use at the track so make sure it can come out easily for convienence and safety too. This way you can still run at the track if you put it in your car and its not legal, just pull it out. As far as spending the money so that a fire does not start, well, um, thats why they call them accidents. Even the greatest mechanics in the world can not predict that a fire will start somewhere, unless its visible and its an obvious place for them to start. These things just happen sometimes. I would have to say though, usually stock cars don't burst out into flames, mostly modified ones do, but my friend's 96' Z28 did and it was totalled. The hood acctually blew off on the high way too.

You can also find them for cheap on eBay.

BUT a chrome fire extinuisher looks out of place when it's in plain view.....
I disagree I really don't like the way the plain red ones looks- I think it looks cheesy. I do like the clean chrome flame ones with mounting brakets. I also like the anniodized (SP??) one like blue and red.

I gotta call shenanigans on the extinguisher. Literally millions of cars are out there without FE's and it's not a problem.

They are for looks, and looks alone.

On my convertible it is on my passenger side a pillar, I like it there so don't bother flaming, and on my race car it is mounted right by the front of the drivers seat on the floor my feet dont even go near it and its super easy to get to if its needed.

As far as a "race" car is concerned, that's a completely different story.

All the import car guys use'm for looks. If you like that look, that's fine, but let's be honest about why it's there. That's my only point, no flame.

Friend of mine with a 'vette proudly showed me his "new" extinguisher he had liberated from a "garage sale". He had it bolted into the inside of his car for any internal fires.

I pointed out he might not want to be actually inside the car when the Halon went off!!

"What's Halon?" he says!!!!

How wrong are you sunshine!

1. as bubbakutz said, I've put a lot of work into my car..worth more than an agreed insurance payout...and even so I wouldn't want to start again from scratch.

2. You will put a window sticker in your car stating..."Under no circumstances stop and put my engine fire out, or attempt to save life in this vehicle using a fire suppressant of any kind. Thanks"

It's a non-invasive fire suppressant.

i.e. It's a gas that instantly removes the oxygen from the air. It was used (in the UK, about 10-15 years ago) in large computer installations, because it would put fires out without damaging the hard/soft ware. It would however kill the operators..so after a time of thought they decided to change to a gas called Inergen, which gives the operators about three breaths to get the f[_]ck outathere!

I am installing a FE in my project car, seeing as one of my previous project cars went up in flames w/o warning. It sucks to sit and watch it w/ your dick in your hand, completely helpless. Hey, it also looks neat too. I am not, however, going for a chrome one--too rycy for me. If I were a better mechanic, I probably wouldn't put it in though!!!!

Hey,
I just have a plain old (new of course) red powder canister tucked under my drivers seat. No pose, just there if I need it, or indeed if anyone else does. I hope they'd do it for me.

Can you paint the little canister's what ever color you want? Like I was just thinking, if you could get the sticker off it, than paint it whatever color, put the sticker back on....that legal? I was thinkin about doing that...paint it same color as car.

You guys make valid points.

My question to you is what color puts out fire better? Pretty chrome, or import blue?

I will concede that the argument has reached a stalemate. I cannot argue what your intentions are, and you make valid points about time and money. Many people on this board have more money and time than you or I have invested, and they don't run FE's.I too have time and money invested, however I would not put something in my car that took away from the appearance of the car. In my opinion, a car fire is one of those things that never happens. YES, I know, it happens, but so do plane accidents and lightning bolts hitting people, but you don't prepare for it do you? You could then argue that a FE would just be that much more protection, but I don't think it's worth it. The same logic applies to car bras. Sure, they protect the paint from the road, but it's not worth the hideous look. I think a FE makes the car look like a work truck or something.

What about under the seat? How about a custom enclosure under the console lid? If you really wanted to hide it you could. Ahhh.....nope, no one would see it would they? As I suspected, it's all about the look. And don't get me wrong, I'm not the last word on whether or not they look good. I'm not flaming. If you like it, that's really cool by me, I didn't intend to argue here.

My point is, that maybe you guys have practical intentions, or maybe not, it doesn't matter, but MOST of the people who have FE's are doing it for the look. People have been investing time and money into cars for quite a while beleive it or not, and YES, some do use Fe's, but it wasn't "the in thing" until the imports started doing it. I would also imagine that the first import guys intended them to be practical too......but it has since turned into an appearance mod, regardless of your personal intentions.

I didn't intend to offend, and I certainly can't presume to know why you are installing an FE......just voicing an opinion.

What about under the seat? How about a custom enclosure under the console lid? If you really wanted to hide it you could. Ahhh.....nope, no one would see it would they? As I suspected, it's all about the look.
I would like to see you get one in there. I acutally put stuff in that compartment. IE insurance papers, cell phone, ect.

Oh yea your statment "I'm not flaming" Then how come you keep posting here what 3 times that you don't liek the idea. You just asking to get flamed. My suggestion if you don't like the idea and the post dosen't ask for suggestions just leave and go talk about something else.

And then your line about what color puts fire out better chrome or "import" blue (I don't even think there is a color import blue, I think you are refering to my post about aniodized (SP?) blue so if that is r*cy then all of your braided hose fittings under you hood are also r*icy. Better take them off and use those ugly hose clamps- but make sure that they are old and worn or paint them because when they are new they are stainless. And we all know that if it's shiny it's R*icy) Is just a bunch of BBBBBBBBSSSSSSS

I'll take my chances with a $30 FE and if something happens where I or someone else needs a FE ie someones elses car is on fire. I know these things aren't huge but it's better than trying to **** one out.

The other thing is that people are complaning that it looks r*cy. All I have to say to that is the only thing a r*cer sees on my car is the rear bumper and license plate.

Take a look at the newest edtion of Camaro Performance- In big letters right on the cover it says "DON'T GET BURNED TRICK NEW ON-BOARD FIRE EXTINGUISHER" My word is that a camaro magizine with "RICY" stuff in it. Ope better not buy that again. It says right in the artical that 1 short electrical short, or accidently get gas on the headers and oh oh "Marshmellos For Everyone!"

And who ever said that most all cars/trucks on the road today do not have FE's that is true. However when you customize a car/truck no matter how good you are you might accidently get something wrong. I think instead of your statement about most cars not having a FE I think you should look at the statement below:
"The number of car and trucks that are customized, weather it is engine work or electrical work (Even the 4th Gen Interior Swap), is a % than stock cars people have not modified asnd use to get from point A to B!"

Oh yea I almost frogot "I'm not flaming this is just my opinion"

Just because I want a safety device such as a FE, doesn't make me a *******-r. It's always good to have in those unpredicable moments. But still no one has answered my question, lol

Can you paint the FE to whatever color you want and still keep the sticker?

yeah, no one has answered mine either, hah......sorry i would answer urs but i dont know the answer.......i would think that u would be able to paint it but do u need to put the sticker back on? i was lookin at fire extinguishers on jcwhitney.com and they had the ionidized (sp?) ones that were blue red and chrome, and they did not have stickers on them......i dont think that u would get busted for having a FE without a sticker on it......

I'm sorry for posting my opinion...it wasn't asked for. Sorry.

It looks like someone needs that FE to put out the fire under there butt. I was just looking for conversation on the topic. I clearly stated several times that I wasn't trying to offend, or flame, and that I realized that I'm not the final word on popular opinion. We all have opinions, and we SHOULD be able to discuss them. As I mentioned earlier, my opinion was not asked for, and for giving it anyway, I apologize.

Since FE's are not required, I can't imagine any problems with NOT having a sticker....although I could be.

(I'm not trying to flame anyone who thought that a sticker was required)

Bubbakutz, I would think simple 3/8" self tapping screws would be fine, but DO NOT QUOTE ME!!! I'm not sure. I might ask over on the tranny forum.
