IROC cluster in a Sport Coupe?

So I'm sitting in fifth period chemistry daydreaming about the car (you know you do it at school/work too). I have an 86 Sport Coupe (2.8L V6) with the giant gas gauge on the right hand side. I seriously do NOT like this look. Infact I downright hate it.

My question is, would it be possible to take the cluster out of say, and IROC and put it in my car. I would like to have a tach, and the relocated (and smaller) fuel gauge.

My only worries are, what would I have to buy to get the tach to work, and would the fuel be properly calibrated? And hell once we are on it, if I where to get a higher speedo (say from 85 to 140) what would I have to do to calibrate that as well? I realize that I'm never going to get the thing up to that speed, but I just like the look . Also What odometer changes would have to be made?

It sounds like alot of work (that is of course if it CAN be done) but I think I'd love to do it. I hope that this gibberish I've typed makes sense and someone can help me.

Thanks.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Speedo, gas and volt guages will work fine as-is...you'll need to swap in oil pressure and coolant temperature sending units for those to read as intended. As for the tach, you'll either have to locate and swap in a unit designed fro the six-cylinder, or, there is a change can be made to the internal circuit (I forget offhand exactly what that mod is??). Otherwise, just plug it in and go....

The easiest thing to do is get a cluster out of a V6 car, or at least get a tach from a V6 car. As mentioned above, you'll need a new oil pressure sender, but those are under $20 and take 5 minutes to change. It is possible that you'd need to run a new wire for it, although I doubt it.

Could someone tell me which years V6s came with a tach and or the cluster that I want (as close to an IROC cluster as I can get)?

As far as I know from 82 to 89 came with a gauge cluster as long as it had real gauges and not stupid warning lights instead. The cluster thats in my sc came from a 87 Z28/IROC I kept the speedo, gas, volt, and temp gauges from it and I found an 82 sport coupe with the analog"real" gauges and got the tach from it and put it in my z28 cluster pod. You just have to remove 2 screws holding the tach in and your'e able to take it out and put the v6 one in. Another note to the oil pressure gauge that is in the tach will read 80psi for a v6 and the v8's read 60 psi, so make sure you get the proper one for your car.

82-89. Most of them came with the tach, so it shouldn't be hard to find. I've only seen a couple camaros with the idiot lights.

As far as "as close to an IROC cluster as I can get"... they're all more or less the same. The IROC didn't get a unique cluster for the most part. The V6 cluster looks exactly the same except for the redline on the tach (6k vs 5k or 5500), and the oil pressure levels on that gauge. The V6 cars all came with the 85mph speedo, while most IROCs got the 110 or 145.
