Who has converted their dash lights to LED's? Please Post Pics

I'm going to probably do the conversion sometime before the winter but I want to see what color everyone has used and know how it turned out for you. I'm thinking of using blue LED's and getting the brightest I can because the stock dash lights just plain suck! Also I would definately like to see red because I just put red bulbs in my interior light sockets today.

Thanks.

i have not done it yet, but i plan on doing it in my own custom way. i also am going to have custom leds in the tail lights,3rd brake light, and side marker lights, and possibly in the parking/turnsignal lights. but my setup will run in between 450 and 600 for the tail lights alone because of the amount of leds i plan on using.

just be sure that u use high disscharge wide dispertion patern leds, t get a unform light pattern, using any other led will result in a blotchy lighting effect.

thanks

I think that when I do mine I'm going to use 97 Ford Explorer gauge pointers. They have a led behind them and are a fiber optic like effect to them, it's hard to explain...so just go look in a explorer and you'll know what I mean

It is VERY easy! Three simple steps.
1. Take a pic of it
2. Put it on your computer
3. Photoshop it blue

I am working on changing the HVAC controls to blue. I was told that there is a light back there to change just like the dash but I havent taken it apart yet. I am going to get a HVAC unit out of a busted up TA and figure it out. I am just a little hesitant about ripping it out. Hopefully I will have it done this weekend.

The pics look great! Are you the one that wrote the tech article that's on the board??

I would also still like to see red if anyone has them, but I think blue is probably the way to go.....just don't know how it would look with my red interior lights, but both aren't on at the same time very often so it wouldn't matter. Or I could change back to clear interior lights....no biggie.

89blackGTA, there should be a 194 bulb that lights up the heater control panel. at least thats whats is in my camaro. Not sure if its 194 or something alse but its the same size as the 194 bulb.

i looked at one at the boneyard and I think us TAs have 3 smaller bulbs, i think the number was like 73 or something.

im pulled the harness which has all 3 bulbs but Im working on switching them over to red LEDs. my only concern is that LEDs light are very unidirectional and may not shed the appropriate light.

im dyslexic, its a 37 bulb, 3 of them..

the bad news is, if you replace them with an LED, it does not work since the light is unidirectional.

there is a clear plastic plate that distributes the light throughout the panel.

i am working on mounting LEDs instead of the plate, its alot of work and alot of LEDs but it should look cool. i will post pics when im done.

there are different types of led's. there are wide dispertion patern ( like a normal light bulb) and narrow dispertion patern, (like a third brake light). then there are high, med. and low discharge LED's, which obviously, the high being the brightest.
you would want a wide dispertion, high discharge (or intensity) led in the color that you prefer, for the dash, or anywere replacing a normal bulb like a 194, 37, or 73 or any other incandesant bulb.

hope this sheds some "light" on things.

thanks
