GTA wing mounting on a TA???
GTA wing mounting on a TA???
I just picked up a GTA wing at the 'yard for $15. And it's in real good condition. My question is that how do you mount it to a TA. The GTA it came from had little pressed on tabs to the trunk that you push the arms of the wing onto. Where do I get them and how do I mount them? Would it be easier to just get the GTA trunk lid?
It would be easier to get the whole hatch. I don't know where you get the tabs. I asked the same question on this board about 4 months ago and that's the response I got. I wish I could get a GTA wing for $15 bucks though!

Where's the difference between the two? They have always looked the same to me.
Those little tabs are spot-welded on. You may want to give a dealer a call and see if you can get the entire metal border that surrounds the whole hatch glass. Or find some alternate means of mounting it.

first off what year is the donor car from?? if its a 91-92 GTA then it will have the metal clips on the metal rail that fits along the outer rear window, if its a later year then it will have plastic clips on it, best way for you to do it is go back and get the rails off the rear hatch if its a 91-92 GTA, much easier to carry off from a bone yard than the entire hatch and will be cheaper, also for later year GTA's up to 92 they all bolt into the same holes on the deck lid for Trans am and GTA's.
1: 91-92 GTA rear spoiler has metal clips attached to the window rail to hold spoiler on.
2: 90 and later in years have plastic clips on them
3: get window rail left/right side and install on your year car
1992 Firebird Coupe V-8 LO3 TBI, automatic with OD, Forest green with GFX, Tan/Black Interior,Formula hood with working 82-83 louver ram air ( under bulge hood ) 92GTA bucket seats/rear spoiler/cross laced rims with 245-50-16 tires,WS6 springs and sway bars,4th gen am/fm cassette with blaupnkt front speakers and cerwin vega 6x9's in the rear.
Mods: aluminum radiator, 200* corvette fan switch,180*stat,ES trans mount, Acell 8mm wires/cap/rotor/coil, bosch plugs, Ravin cat back exhaust

The donor car was unfortuantly some V6 POS that some guy tryed to do some slick stuff that looked r1ce-tacky in the end, so I assume it was off a 88 or so b/c the third brake light was on the top of the window. I called GM and they said it woul be $5 for each clip an I need 6 so it would be do able but there is a 10 count minimum so it would be $50 and I could prolly get the whole window/trunklid for that.

You should be able to remove the metal tabs from the car you got the spoiler from. If you are going to do this, you might want to go ahead and get the metal decklid too. You'll need a helper just to lift the hatch off the car. First, removie the hatch from the car. There are four nuts under the headlinder in the back which hold the hinges to the car. If I recall, the yare 13MM. Also, you will need to remove the 2 bolts that hold the hatch struts to the decklid. If I recall, they are 8MM. Now pull the hatch off the car and lay it on the ground, upside down. Remove the plastic interior piece from the underside of the decklid, and you will see little phillips head screws holding the window trim to the decklid. Remove these screws, and then carefully pop the window trim off the edge of the glass. There is one long piece per side. This will give you the tabs needed for the spoiler. Since you have the hatch taken apart this much already, you might as well get the decklid. There are about 10 or 12 10MM nuts holding the decklid to the glass, and they all have some sort of threadlock on them, so they are tight until the last thread when you remove them. Also, be careful removing these, because if you break one of the studs away from the metal piece its attached to, you cant get the decklid off.
