My steering wheel and shifter **** have the option where they are leather wrapped, lately though i noticed on the wheel, a few small spots. Looks like a little flake or chip, but its a black/gray leather, but tan underneath. Where these things just painted over? Little can of paint from a hobby store to touch it up? The leather is a kinda cheap looking...hard..plasticy type, is that just the stuff they used? Or was it once more soft and seat-leather-like, and maybe mine just dried out 10 years ago?

might be tan leatehr died black, and the die wore off to show the orig color??

My leather was in similar shape. Most of it was still soft, but some places were all dried and flaky. I didn't see any tan though, hmmm...? Not sure. I'm having it re-wrapped. Here's the link.

leather is Painted, unless you get the high quality stuff that is "Vacuum died" where they saturate the leather with the color, so when it wears it does not show as bad.

Ahh so its paint coming off probably then. It's not like a finished tan...its more like a ..well, you wear belts? Wear leather belts? Ever get one that got dried out and cracked? That tanish inside color. I will check out the hobby shop tonight and grab some paint to touch it up with...maybe some leather softener and see how it goes. You guys recomend anything specific for painting the leather? Thanks for the info.

What are they charging you to re-wrap your leather wheel? I looked on their site but didn't see pricing listed.

hmm i called the toll free number and talked to them a bit. Its seems like a nice thing to get done, but a bit over-budget for me. There are different types of wheels, for my style, which has the rectangular horn area, and leather around the center and back of the wheel on top of the 'grip' area, they said it was the most expensive kind. They gave me these numbers:

'grip' area - $110
over the center/around the back - $85
the little square pad that pops in the center between the horn switches - $55 (this is the part with the chips, btw)

so for the wheel itself, 195 and the square pop in piece as well, 250. Heh. I'll try soaking it in leather stuff, and if not, maybe start checking the yards. It would be AWESOME to have nice, supple looking new soft leather around the wheel though, would look great.

Oh yah, they say on the website they'll wrap your shifter handle **** too...i forgot to ask about a price on that

I think it was like $250 for the wheel and $50 for the shift ****, if you got them done together.

It's pricey, but so is $400 for a new one. Ebay is a little risky for me, quality wise, and aftermarket is not an option. It's not where I wanted to spend the money, but it's what has to be done.
