What kinda cage for 650hp
What kinda cage for 650hp
I have decided to go with a cage after all. I am putting SFC, STB modified suspension, a cross brace where the back seat's back rest used to clip, but since it's a uni-body I guess I need a cage. So what kind should I get, I was thinking about a 4pt but do I really need a 8pt. Also [I know this sounds vain] do these cages get in the way of the rear speakers, or change the acustics of the car very much. This camaro is set up for AutoX but is not driven hard most of the time. So what'ca think??? Can I get away w/ a 4pt. ???
I know in drag racing the type of cage you need is dependent on you time/mph. Don't know about AutoX though. If the car isn't driven hard or auto crossed often, then I would go with a 4point. Are you planning on tying the cage into the sfc's? I've heard of people doing this and getting great results.
you don't need one............
yes it will change the sound as the proper cage is a thick metal that will obstruct the sound area.
i've been working on the idea myself....trying to figure out what needs to be done to make a latching setup legal.

I think I mis-spoke this. I dont care if it's leagal for drag, street, autoX or in the state of CA. All I am worried about is dropping my dub. McLeod Clutch and my 650hp engine turning the car into a huge prezel. I have SFC STB and a cross brace in the back, but later this summer when I get it out of storage, I want it to be DONE, and not have to worrie about my unibody getting f**ked up. So do I need one??? at all?? and if so 4, or 8pt. ???? THANKS
Oh yea, the cross brace is where the latch USED TO BE, now it's bolted w/ king nuts, reniforced w/ a welded SS plate on the other side, and the cross brace is also welded. No latched here! lol

well if you wanted to i would recommend a 6 or 8 point cage. A four point won't connect to the front of the car at all, so it won't tie the whole car together. It isn't necessary until 11.99 at the track? I "think" i'm sure i'll be called an idiot if I am wrong.
so your frame is tied and you have a strut tower and steering brace as well as thicker sway bars?
so basically everything is pretty up and up and your worried about turning your car into a "pretzel"
well, if your worried certainly you can put a cage in that will help 6 point being the medium....8 might be a bit excessive for the street but can't hurt.
are you running dr's? i know for the street i don't run dr's because of the stress and excess that they cause for no reason. stock street tires will never grip enough to "pretzel" your frame enough with the things above that you have.
if it were me and i were worried i'd do it, but i'd go no larger than 6 just to tie up all areas. i'd also make sure the door area was latching so that i could get in and out easier....a cage is a pain in the *** until your in the car.

Your right... With high pro street tires on 16's I probably would brun the tires off the rims before I could hurt the frame. I just thought that 650 was alot of power, and I didn't want to f**k my car up. Thanks I kinda was thinking the same, just had to conf. it.
