Switch to 88 IROC spoiler
Hi! Im new, been watching these boards for awhile, love em'! Have a 91' Z28 and an 87' Z24
Anyways, my question....I bought a spoiler of of an 88 IROC. How hard is it to switch from my stock 3 piece to the IROC spoiler? Are the pieces of my stock spoiler bolted in? I sized my new spoiler up a bit today and looks like it fits in same space as the large piece of my stock spoiler. *Doesnt extend over the slits of the hatch like the high rise* Also it has a 3rd brake light in it, my normal 3rd light is at top of the hatch, how can I make the spoiler light work? Lastly, if its a lot of drilling and such I'll prolly take it to body shop...want it to look nice. Anyone have an idea what a shop would charge for this work? Anyonw had it done? Thanks!!

Are you wanting to take the High Rise spoiler off? If you are, the high rise will have to be unbolted, and the holes filled. the you have to drill new holes for the new 3 peice spoiler and bolt it on. then probably a nice coat of paint to cover up the new body work. for the brake light, you will just have to run wires to the new one.

Keep the high rise on the 91Z. Or wait until the 5inch 3piece spoiler is produced. Now if you had a 91-92 RS with the smaller 3 piece spoiler then I would go for it but since you already have the more desireable spoiler on your Z I would keep it on.

No no! I am sorry I must have been confusing. I have the stock 3 piece spoiler on now. I bought an 88 IROC spoiler and I want to install it. That's the basis of the questions

Just like pskel350 said are you sure you have a Z28? All of them came with the highrise spoiler while the RS's had the 3 piece spoiler. Well they are sorta similar. The spoiler you have is exactly the same to the 82-86 3 piece spolilers and the 91-92 are the same. In 87-90 the 3 piece spoiler had the 3rd brake light so gm had to make the spoiler bigger to accomadate the 3rd brake light. OIC, you may need to widen the side pieces holes for the bigger ones to fit. And you will need a different rear int panel with a retcuagluar square with 4 metal slots in it. I would take some pics of it but its snowing outside right now. And on the decklid you need a springing connector that will come in contact with the rectangular square with the metal slots. You then need to run a black wire to a grond and the yellow wire needs to be attached to a light blue wire on the rear driverside under the int panel with the storage compartment.
Becarefull when doing that, the wires are made out of aluminum or something that will eaisly break. I added one to my 85 SC it was easy to do once I got all the hardware to make the light work properly, right now the only problem I'm having with it is it keeps on blowing my hazard fuse when I apply the brakes. But thats due to a bad ground or my power wire has frayed and is touching the deck lid. All together the project is quite simple to do. I would install everything and make sure it all works then take it back off and have the spoilers painted to match.

Nope he has a 91 Camaro with the 82-86,91-92 3 piece spoiler and wants to put on a 87-90 3 piece spoiler with the 3rd brake light in the center spoiler. I wonder if his car is actually a RS but with Z28 emblems.

i had a friend that had the 91 Z with three peice spoiler and we could never figure out why it had that spoiler on it, i guess maybe it was a special order on his car or something, maybe the original owner didn't like the look of the High Rise on it, there was also a guy in our town that had a 92 tpi 350 Z that after his hatch was broken into rather than buy new glass went to the junkyard and bought the whole rear hatch and left the three peice on the new hatch rather than fill the wholes and remout the high rise and just added the side peices to the sides of the car

Ok, my car might just have Z28 emblems? donno?? Stock 305....VIN code shows it as the model just below the 350 model that came out in 91, so thats all I know. And it has the 3 piece spoiler. Did all Z28's come stock with 350's? If so, then it's RS...has both RS and z28 symbols so maybe the guy put them on. Anyways I currently have the stock 3 piece spoiler on. I am trying to switch to a rare spoiler I bought that came off of a 1988 IROC. I heard it was only released on select IROC's for maybe 6 months of the year *least that is what the ad said* got it for 52 bucks, here is the info and pics http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...401553244&rd=1
It seems to line up pretty well....anyways trying to switch from my camaro *z28 or not I donno* 3 piece spoiler, to that ^^ pictured spoiler which is similar to a high rise and came from as a rare factory IROC spoiler in 1988!!! Hopefully that clears it up!

Ok, the pic really helped. The deck lid will need to be redrilled and the sides of the rear quarters will need to be welded up and the spots repainted. You will need a different rear int panel with a retcuagluar square with 4 metal slots in it. I would take some pics of it but its snowing outside right now. And on the decklid you need a springing connector that will come in contact with the rectangular square with the metal slots when you shut the hatch. You then need to run a black wire to a grond and the yellow wire needs to be attached to a light blue wire on the rear driverside under the int panel with the storage compartment.

Alright,
so what I gather from this thread is:
1. the guy has a 91 RS that has been partially rebadged as a z28
2. it has the 82-86,91-92 3 piece spoiler
3. he wants to take it off and install the "shorty" spoiler of an 88 sport coupe
correct?
well, I did basically the same thing, only instead of the 88 shorty wing, I went with the high rise....so all you've got to do is:
pull off the old spoiler (hardest part of the job....the little metal brackets that hold the top of the spoiler on are insanely difficult to reach, in my case it caused very much frustration and resulted in the use of a hack saw)
fill in the old holes....I had some small metal plates welded behind the holes and then they put some fiberglass stuff over it
make a template of the 88 shorty wing and drill the new holes...
paint everything to match, mount the spoiler and your done!
