Bewarned!!! mailing a hood is huge pain in the backside! You have to build a super, and I mean a super crate. Almost like fort knoxs, if you think I m kidding I m not. The reason I tell you this is that I help a friend mail a hood, and it kept getting damage(forks poking through it, things like that). The mailing company keep trying to use a fortlift to load and unload it and keep damaging hood. The shipping company replaced the hood, but still The guy who bought the hood was getting mad, cause each time he recieved the hood it had been beat the heck up. It was a huge mess, But to answer your question. Anywhere from a $100-200 dollars, You have to build a crate and shipping could be anywhere from 50 to 150 or more. Make sure you insure the hood what ever route you take.

Go with UPS. I work there and they will handle your package better than most. You don't have to build a crate, but make sure the box is plenty big enough, and that you have some heavy duty padding and/or bracing inside. They don't use forklifts or anything, and it will be taken care of. You can also pay extra money to have it wrapped in a red and white striped bag, and the package handlers will treat it nicely. Don't just write fragile on the side, b/c that doesn't mean sh**. But if you pay for that bag, the handlers get in trouble if they mistreat, and it will be hand delivered in the warehouse.

If you want it damaged Use UPS... They take big boxes and use them as goal posts, and small boxes for soccer *****.

Besides A hood is WAAAAAYYYY too big for UPS.

I think my STEEL hood weighed about 60# or so, my Aluminum one weighed about half.

Most Trucking Companies charge the same rate UP to 100#

good luck shipping anything that big, 130" of combined girth plus length is the limit unless you want to spend tons of dough to freight ship it, and even 108" requires you to pay a surcharge fee,
weight limit is now down to 70lbs, and even if the hood only weighed 5lbs it is stil too large and will cost the same as if it weight 105lbs

have fun !

No offense to you intended, but I have about lost patience with UPS. Out of the last four packages I have shipped , a 2nd day package took 7 days to deliver, and another they returned as damaged in shipment. Funny thing was, they ripped a couple small holes in the box (didn't hurt the item I was shipping because I double boxed it and used lots of paper) and sent me a letter saying it was being returned, and they wouldn't honor the claim! They did ship it back to the guy for no additional cost, but they didn't even check the item to see if it was damaged. With Fed EX Ground as an option (usually cheaper, nonunion, and better service), I'll only use them on stuff I know they can't break.
As stated above, UPS won't take anything that big anyway.

Well now I'm hoping to transport the hood myself, assuming it fits into the bed of my little truck okay... any tips on transporting it myself?

Put it as far forward in the bed as it will go, and strap it down with ratcheting tie downs. It doesn't take much to lift a hood out of your truck at 60mph.
