Out of curiousity, does anyone know why they didnt make a replica of the original Notchback design?
I imagine no one wanted to give it up as a mold, lol.
Im not raggin on GTAuto, i think we're very fortunate to havea company willing to reproduce old and new parts for out generation cars, im just curious why the completely differnet design...

I believe the reason he did not dulicate the original 88 hatch was there is some structural challenges to the original design. George's (GTAuto's) design is stronger.

There are at least three aftermarket ones that have been available (Motion Glass, GT Auto, and some company out of Texas), but I still prefer the original one. The original notchback to me looks natural, like it belongs...the others to me look like they're trying to make the 3rd gen into something its not. If I can get my hands on an original notch, I know a few people who would probably help me make repros.

GTAutos design is completley hideous. If you look at it from the side, it has the EXACT same dimensions as the stock glass... this leads me to believe that their hatch was merely molded from a stock hatch, with a section cut out. At least, thats the impression I get. The whole point of the notchback is to enhance the body lines for the car, and GTAutos does nothign of the sort.
If you would like a hatch that is close to origonal, call Motion Glass, in NY. Their hatch is pretty close to the origional.

I like the way gtauto's looks but it happens to be on a camaro not a firebird
. I like the lines of it and losing the 8 billion pound stock glass piece would be cool.

I Believe that the Stock Notchback used the base Firebird Spoiler and high mount light.

From the side it looks like someone forgot to mask off the rear window before it went into a paint booth.

Nice bird paul. Thankx. BTW gtautos claims 1/2 the weight of the stock peice with their notchback.

I don't like the GTAuto notchback, but this image from your site looks good. Kind'of reminds me of a Testarossa.

However, I can't stand the profile of it. I like the look of the stock notchback because of the different body line it gives the car. THe GTAuto notchback doens't change the profile lines at all.

I like the look of the factory notchback better than the GTAuto's. Theres looks like they just got a regular hatch glass used it to make the form of the mold, and then made the notchback part. I like the fatcory one because it changes the body lines and looks more subtile than the GTAuto's.
