Is this a good idea? (inhibitor in interior)

Hey guys, I'm just thinking ahead for when I pull the GTA out in the spring. Now, this car had been winter driven for at least several years before it's current ownership (ahem), and it had the body rust to prove it. The undercarriage still looks ugly. I'd imagine that there's at least some rust inside, under the carpet by now. If I were to pull the seats and pull back the carpet and find some surface rust (at best), would it be a good idea to clean it up and apply some rust inhibitor or would that stink out my car permanently? Does that kind of stuff give off an odour after it has dried? Is there some reason I shouldn't?

http://www.por-15.com dries hard as a rock, and doesn't smell. For the best results (adherability), use all three stages; the marine clean, the metal ready (zinc wash), and the POR-15.

I bought their $20 super starter kit in semi-gloss, and it was enough to give my 3.73/posi/disc rear axle two coats of the stuff. Wear gloves!!! Once it dries on your skin, it's gotta wear off.

Also, wear long sleeves. I was brushing away with the brush- the stuff flows thinly so you don't need to spray it at all- and when I looked at my arm, I had little black specs of POR15 all over me. Oops!

That would be one of the inhibitor products I'm considering, although I'll probably just wind up with something off the shelf at the autoparts store.

What about the idea of using it in the interior though? Any problems with laying the carpet over it, the odour, etc.?

Used Por-15 myself. Excellent product. I don't think you can go wrong with it.

If you use an off the shelf rust inhibitor from a place like Crappy tire your gonna be driving around with tops off and windows down for a long time. Believe me, i've done it!

Thanks, that's the kind of info I'm looking for.

I'll have to look into POR-15 then, or just get the floor pans replaced if they're as bad as I think they are.
