Chalk up another dash! d@mn winter!!!

Went to uncover my convertible yesterday to take it out for a quick spin, and much to my dissappointment the dash now has a huge crack running from the drivers side speaker grille to the steering wheel. I've read other members posts about this happening to them, but never thought it would happen to me, I've owned the car ('89) since new, and it has been through some real cold weather before without incident. My only saving grace is that I have a replacement dash pad that I yanked out of another RS about 4 weeks ago. I'm not as pissed about this as I should be, but to anyone who keeps their cars in cold temps, be warned. I didn't think this would happen to me, but it did. Man, I can't wait for spring!!

You wanna sell it? I'll take the cracked dash off your hands if you feel like mailing it down here to Virginia Beach.

if you can get one at a scrap yard more power to you. i know if you buy it new you will pay out of the @$$ for it. when my buddies cracked we went to our local u pull it and picked up a mint condition one up for 16 bucks.

I posted I was lucky in a previous thread, no cracks yet. How ghetto will it look if I just take it out and drive without a dashpad?

I picked up my replacement one from a local yard for $60.00. It came out of an '89 RS, and the pad is mint!! Clean dash pads are out there, you just gotta keep an eye out for them. I'm gonna be picking up another one this weekend from the same yard I got the first one from (he's got a lot of third gens there!)

I am looking for a cracked dashpad also if anyone else wants to donate one. I am going to try to recover it correctly myself. I need to drive my car every day and there isnt even a singe freakin 3rd gen in the 2 parts yards here in Dubuque. So if anyone wants to donate(I will gladly pay shipping) one that has some cracks that would be great!

Why not get a fiberglass dash, get it rhyno lines (to match the old dash's look) and just tweak a few things on it than bingo you get a stock looking dash, no one will know it's not, it wont crack and it lighter??

when you guys store your cars, why dont you just take the dash pads off? Theres only like 10 screws and you can just tuck it away under a bed or something.

the dash pad in my red sport coupe actually has a dent in it.

just above where the tach would be, on the flat surface, is a large indentation approx 2 inches in diameter, and 1/8 inch deep.

very noticeable, and it's cracked everywhere.

Why don't you guys try spraying a ton of armour all on it letting it sit in for an hour then treating it every couple weeks. it's supposed to keep it supple so it won't crack and break.

Ok, I'm not making this up, you all cursed me! I got in my car today after reading this post, and hit my knee on the corner of my once-mint dashpad. The whole corner cracked because of the cold, aghhhhh!!!!!

what causes the dashes to crack? i have an 87 iroc with a PERFECT dash "knocks wood" i mean godamn perfect, not a single imprefection, looks brand new, when i bought the car from the guy he offereed me 100$ if i could find another camaro with a dash in my condition, and he's damn right, my dash is A+ perfection, now how do i keep it that way? i read that armorall has alcohol which actually dries it out, i went to pepboys to pick up some 3M mosterizer and couldn't find any, i live in south jersey, it does get cold.....what the hell would cause the dash to crack like that? what can i do? does losening the bolts work? if so where are the bolts and how many? the interior of my car is the only thing that is mint and i want to keep it that way
