I am about ready to order my hood and 4th gen spoiler from hawks and i was just wanting some input on the hood. I got an email from him and he says that the hood and spoiler need to be sanded before primered. I am just wanting to know from people that have ordered his hood and possibly his spoiler how much sanding is required on them. Are there blemishes in the hoods or is it just a light sanding that is required. I have heard nothing but good things about Hawk and i just want to know how the hoods are.

 

The hoods are made by ASCD, and what i hear is that hawks does not have them at the warehouse, they simply take the orders and tell the factory of ASCD to ship the hood to your address.. but the sanding part im not sure of. I have heard people say that you should drive around for a few weeks and let the sun dry it out and kind of work it in i guess before you paint it to keep it looking straight and stuff.

 

I have an ascd ram air hood and it came with a coat of black primer on it, just to protect it in shipping i guess. I sanded that down a little, then put a coat of good primer. Let that sit a while, then sanded, wetsanded, and painted. It came out really nice. The underside i did the same thing, except i put a bead of sealer on the seam around the edge of the hood. This was about 2 years ago so how they do things now might be different.
