rust on wheel arches.

I have surface rust on my wheel arches and was wondering the best thing to di after I remove it all. What can I put on the bare metal before painting it so that it doesn't just come through again next year?

Thanks

Robert

I have had great sucess with kurust, if you are down to shiny metal, there is no point coating the external surface with it, because it will only react with rust, but if you still have the odd dimple in the surface it will work well.

While you have the Kurust out, liberaly coat the back of the arch with it, it will stop any rust that is just starting to form, then a liberal coat of waxoyle or stone chip paint behind the arches. (check they are totaly dry first) If possible get behind the sail pannel, and waxoyle the area where the inner and outer 1/4 pannels meet, this is a rust trap.

I prefer stone chip for the inside of arches, because it isnt gooey or stickey, and waxoyle for areas between inner and outer pannels, and inside sills and doors etc....

go to a local hardware store and ask about a bit that fits into a drill, its a flat disk shape, but it kinda looks like a sponge, its black with metallic bits, it takes off paitn and beats the **** out of rust. and last a long time. good luck.

if you can sand down to totaly shiny metal, dont bother, Kurust will only react with rust, but if the rust has left little pits in the metal that wont clean up, kurust will prevent them turning back into rust.

Phil,

Where do you get krust in the UK? Is it similar to por-15?

Thanks

Hey Rob,

Just got your e-mail as well. I got the body shop to do mine as I was getting bad stone chips on the rears too. The painted and stone chipped after. I am also going to paint the inner lip with Hammerite and then Waxoyl. You can get all this stuff from Halfords. I am in the process of doing it all now...hard work.

Speak soon mate and hopefully meet you!

Felix

Phil,

Like the stripes!

Felix,

I'm mail you soon and let you know what events I'll make it to this year.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll get started when I get my SFCs sorted out.

Robert:
Kurust is totally different to POR-15. You can use some of both of them next time youŽre round at mine and IŽll explain the different uses.
