How are indiglo gauges made?

I want to make some overlays for the shifter plate and heater controls, since noone else does (why?). I'm wondering if anyone knows how these things are made, I can't find much information online. Any help is appreciated.

I see your bump and raise you two....You can find both items on ebay. They don't always show up but a few people make them.

This is my hobby!

I'm looking for HOW the gauges are made, not where I can get them.

Cayse, you HAVE to sell me some when you figure out how to do them!!!

Here's how it works
http://science.howstuffworks.com/question296.htm

And here are some places that may be able to let you buy EL (electroluminescent , remember this term for googling it if you want to) paper.

http://www.luminousfilm.com/catalog.htm
http://www.beingseen.com/
http://www.e-clec-tech.com/el.html
http://www.metromark.com/membraneswi...neswitches.asp

That's a start. If you can just get some EL paper maybe you can print it with a normal printer.

And also, if we can do a group purchase, we can get procarparts to make them. Me and you, that's 2 already, I'm sure we can get 8 more for such a cheaply priced item.

How many people are interested? I wo uld be willing to make these... I just need a test car since I don't have my own right now Anyone?

Now reading on this it's pretty simple. The films are easily cut up and wired together And if I remember correctly the Heater control has it's own overlay on it and so does the auto transmission. So someone with an Auto Maro/bird in Vancouver/Portland area let me know but you can't email me just respond here

I didn't forget. I bumped it up because nobody answered. I've been researching it on and off for a while. I have no definite plans to make anything... yet. I'm trying to determine if I would be able to pull it off, manufactured and delivered. I have the 92 RS to work with.

I haven't seen the inside of a camaro in awhile but as I said I believe the shift selector is a clear plastic with the letters painted on the clear plastic.. the interesting part will be the selector itself but that shouldn't be too hard, And then the heater controls are clear as well I believe. I'll have to check out my friends Z and find out but it should be pretty simple, cut down to size and put the indiglo below the selector. Otherwise you I can trace the selectors themselves and add include an overlay in the "kit" but I just have to get the parts and look at a camaro.

Johnny I would be interested. As long as its a good color scheme Most of the ones I see online and on ebay for the 82-89 Camaros dont look to good. And the only one I like has 2 different fonts I would let you test them on my car but its a long drive up to you

hehe Ya clovis is kind of a drive to the couve. I have no idea about color scheme yet either. I guess it could be customizable with the overlays over the actual luminescent paper. I can get a test kit for 25 bucks to try this shizzle out on. I just need a car!

Just go to the junkyard and get the parts you need and a spare battery. I don't see this being an easy process, though.

Does anyone have vector images of the gauge clusters, HVAC units, or auto trans plates?

How would one get a vector drawing of the hvac and shift indicator? Just scan it (raster of course) and convert it?

And yeah, there are homemade white overlays for the hvac and shift indicator on Ebay, but they are not indiglo.

And there are indiglo gauges on Ebay, I have a set and they really are awesome, I just want the hvac and shift indicator to match. That would be AMAZING!!!

Cayse I think you'll just have to scan it and work from there. Make a 1:1 copy and then on a new layer relayout everything as a vector drawing so it's easy to change. Shouldn't be too terribly hard.

And I don't know about you guys, but a gear indicator arrow for me isn't a huge deal at all. It boggles me, how could you not know what gear your in?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I could scan and then do some measuring/tweaking/rasterizing with Illustrator. I'm just wondering if I can save some hassle if anyone has some done already.
