Shifter plate?
I was wondering if a manual shift plate will fit on an automatic car. Will the shifter still work correctly and still have all its travel?

No, it won't. The shift lever wouldn't have enough travel to reach the manual "2" or "1" positions. It would probably be ok, if you just used P N R D. Why would you want to put a manual shift plate on an automatic? Wouldn't that be kind of poser-ish to disguise your automatic for a 5 speed? (I can just hear all the nasty replies already!)

Yes, it will fit. I've already test fitted this.
My T-5 plate for my A-4 is currently on order....I should have it soon. I'm gonna cover the shift pattern though. ( of course ).
I'm also fabricating an LED shift indicator for the dash. Lokar makes kit, but it only fits there shifters. UNLESS you feel like jury riggin' it a little.
The T-5 shifter plate looks a lot cooler than the A4 plate on the Camaros.
Poser-ish??:nono:
Son, some of us are so far beyond what other people think. Thanks for your input though.

well I was gonna do this because my stock plate is in needs of replacing and I wanted a custom look so I was gonna get a red and black boot for it to match the rest of my interrior. As for the poser part Im not trying to be a poser I just wanted to go for a little different look not trying to make it something its not.

right on man, do your own thing. I was browsing the site and found this pic a long time ago, I don't remember who's it is though. I was planning on doing this sooner or later... just wanna rig something up for the gears though.
id be interested in seeing a rigged up LED shift indicator, i think that would look awefully cool with the manual shift plate and the automatic. imo, those auto shift plates look so ugly, and the plate with a leather boot looks much more sweeter.

The LED shift indicator would be cool, and I plan on doing it, but in all honesty, I'm so used the car that I don't really look. I guess I never did. My guess is most of you guys don't either?
ive been driving for all of 2 and a half months now
(permit) and i get my license in june... needless to say im not at all experienced lol so for the moment, i look at it, but it wont be long before im used to it. then again, the shift indicator light in my bro's 89 bird that im learning on only works when it wants too

Yes. It will work.
The one I test fitted was from my old 86 SC. I'm sure it was a little stretched out, but it was NO WHERE close to not being able to reach 2 and 1. ???
Think about it, does 1st gear go back any farther than 4th gear on a manual? I dunno, maybe it does a little bit, but it was still 100% compatable. Don't know what that new guy was thinkin'.
Check out the pic, seems to fit fine!!!

The leather looks way better i'll admit(and i think all autos should be blown to S**T) but thats just me.. look at the C5's they use a leather boot on the automatics. but if you didn't own and auto, you wouldn't have this problem in the first place
