Gauges

I'm working on my girlfriend's 85 Formula. She has the gauge cluster that only goes to 85 mph. She woudl like to swap in a 145 mph cluster. My concern is weather it will work properly or not, because the oil and the gas gauge are reversed from the 85 cluster to the 145 cluster. Also, I'm not sure if the speedometer is cable or electronic. That is the end of the first question.

My other question is, about my 88 Formula. I'm sawpping a manual tranny in place of a auto tranny. I'm pretty sure the speedometer is electronic from the auto tranny. Than manual however, has a cable driven speedometer. How do I get the speedometer to work with the manual tranny.
Thanks,
Nick

It should work...I swapped out my gauge cluster(in Camaro) with the big gas gauge and 85mph speedo to the cluster with the tach and gauges. The cluster has the wiring on it so that everything should work correctly. I would imagine the speedo is cable driven.

Ah, now the camaro's I do know. All you have to change is the oil pressure sending unit, and the temp sending unit. RIght now your SC has switch's. The gauge cluster is a direct bolt in. Also make sure to get a 80 PSI oil gauge.

It is not a direct swap. The 85mph cluster is completly different then the 140mph cluster. I swapped mine in my 85 T/A. As you noticed the guage location is different. You will need to cut and splice the connections to allow the signal to go to the correct location. The pin-outs for the two connectors on the 85mph cluster is very different from the 140mph cluster. You will also need to add a buffer box for the electric speedometer. It does not matter what transmission you have but you will need an electric vss for the 5-speed. Its different from the auto. You will need to make sure you have the correct gears in the tail housing.

If you swap trannys and the gauge cluster, I have the Electronic VSS sender that bolts into the manual tranny.
It has the gear for a 3.27 rear end. If I change my dash, I may have the cluster and buffer box for sale as well.

From me. I have one that is for sale. $40 shipped and it's yours, as long as you live in the USA.
