Door Handle

Im replacing my door handle and when I bought a new door handle for my 86 trans am, the handle pegs where not threaded at all. Whats up with this? How do they attach to the door? Self retaining clips or something or nuts and bolts? Also I had to buy a new rod for my door handle and I was wondering if thats all I need for my door handle to function properly? I just have the metal rod and nothing came with it. Does it need any special clips or anything? Thanks for your time.

I have never installed a new one, but I would imagine the nuts cut their own threads on the posts...try tightening one of the nuts with a ratchet onto the post, I'll bet it will make threads. The rod attaches with a small plastic clip.

what small plastic clip? The one on the door handle or at the bottom of the rod itself?

My post may be helpful. Look halfway down or so for the diagram.

By the way, the nuts are self cutting. A plastic piece holds the rod in place at the door handle.

There's a clip that secures the rod to the door handle. They sell it in the HELP section at the auto parts store. It only costs a dollar or two.
