'82 - '84 Recaro Trans Am!

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone here on this site owns a 1982 - 1984 Recaro Trans Am?

I came across an 82 model in the back lot of car-x here in Cincy. It was pretty beat up, 150k and the engine looked caved in. I went inside and asked about it, the guy who worked there fired it up. This story was that his father who had just passed away owned a mechanics shop in Harrison, OH for 30 years. Somebody in the early 90's brought the car in for a tune up and never came back for it. His father parked it behind the garage where it sat for about ten years. He wanted $1,000 for it, not really worth it for the condition that it was in. To this day I wonder whatever became of that car.

I have seen the Recaro Trans Am website, it's in my bookmarks.

So if ya own one, please post a picture! The Recaro is my dream car!!

I would love a mint 1982 Black and Gold or Recaro Trans-AM for a daily driver. I wouldn't do a thing to it. I'd keep it all stock except for the radio. (Most likely.)

Something about those cars that I just would want to preserve.

Sure it does. I would just rebuild the engine whenever it was needed. I live less than a mile from work. It would take forever to put alot of miles on the car.

For example my 2002 F-150 is my daily driver now. It's about 9-11months old. It had 5 miles on the odometer when I took posession of it. It now has less than 8,000 on the clock. The only reason it has that many is because I took a road trip from Dallas TX to Atlanta GA and back.

I take very good care of my interior. I never allow beverages in my cars. I don't carry passengers and I would protect it aganst sun damage as best as I could. I never park near anyone. I always park as straight as possible to avoid door dents.

I'm a bit **** about my vehicles. But they bring me joy. I think I could keep a original 1982 TA in good order and drive it ever day.

ok, but how many people live less than 1 mile from work.

if i had one it would be a 'driver' but not a 'daily driver'

Speaking of close to work

I don't even drive to work it's literally a 2 minute walk door to door.
it would take me longer to open the garage fire up the car shut the garage etc... than it does to just walk across the street

I've owned my formula since March of 98 an donly have put on 9,800 miles since i love driving it but just don't need to or have time latley.

There's a few recaro's in readers rides. Go to the main page & select reader's rides- from that page click on "search the rides" and where it says "search for rides with descriptions that contain the following words" type in recaro.

I have a 1982 Recaro!

Its been repainted long time ago and has some kind of centerline wheels and a 305 carb engine.
Its going to be converted to a GTA clone with the recaro seats and doorhandles.

I know!
But the only thing thats "recaro" about my car now is the door handles and the seats.
The CF engine is long gone. the front has been cracked and bent. its been repainted (the gold trim is still vissible where the paint is peeling of. kinda cool!)
So i dont have any consern of modifying it a bit. I will keep the door handles and seats.

Btw Cuban pete: Is this you on this page:

- recaro door graphics - American Auto Club International

Do you know what the fabric on the seats is called?

if you join the forum i'm sure you will get a very warm welcome!

i wonder how many recaro's there are outside the u.s??

i know of two in the uk , both 83's. dont think there are any 82's (i could be wrong)
original or not , you have a great car there!

The one i have is the only one i know off in norway (1982) we have atleast one 84 daytona that i know off. When i first saw the ad for the car i thought it was just a normal 82 in need of some restoration. But when i saw the seats i went for the deal in a second! And just 5 minutes after i said "ill take it" a guy from another part of norway called me and said he doubble what i payed for it! he obbviously knew what the car was (like me).hehe.

I've heard that there is as little as 50 1982 recaros left... I find that odd, but it can be plausible...

could well be just 50.
it's sad but to some there just another old american car and they just scrap them. it's nice that the early thirdgens are now starting to be restored and worked on. knight rider could take some credit for this , but the 82-84 trans am is a fantastic looking car and deserves classic status
i'm kind of thinking of buying a good 82 or 83, leaving it looking standard on the outside but upgrading all the mechanicals. i cant do it to my recaro because although it's in need of paint it' very original and i would like to keep it that way (apart from i fitted some turbo cast's to replace the turbo fin wheels , i have the originals)
the forum on the avo has a welcome thread running for you , pop in and say hello!

cheers!

matt

I have the black one! its been repainted a long time ago, but the paint is peeling of some places and the gold shines through! hehe

I am NOT knight-ridering it! No way! I'm just going to replace the front to a bit more aggressive one and redoing the interour in leather.
