tranny tunnel clearence

How much space is there between the tranny tunnel and the transmission itself? I need to drill some holes in the tunnel to pop-rivet in a floorboard patch. I need to know how much clearence I have before I start to drill into the tranny. The holes will start a couple inches forward of the front driver seat all the way to the rear seat.

Thanks,

Matt

As a guess, 2-3" for auto trans. and a little better for standard. Enough room to not worry about powering through your tranny. As a drill stop/guide, if you still feel uneasy about drilling there, you can use a ¼" deepwell socket...

Thanks a lot! Thats exactly what I needed to know. Good thinking with using a socket as a stopper, I never would have thought of it.

Thanks again,
Matt
