Will 4thgen gas tank fit into 87Z28

I am picking up a stiprred 87Z28 to restore with an LT1, blah, blah, blah.... Question is is the 4thgen gas tank the same as a 3rdgen and will it fit into a 3rdgen?? It is from a 93TA

There was a post a while back with this same question. I believe that they said it would fit right in but i cant remember for sure. Do a search and it should come up with no problem. I also remember hearing that the 4th gen gas tanks are lighter as well.

Now my question: Why not use the original tank??

I think from what I read, the filler neck on the 4th gen is longer. I agree with RCR...why not use the original. The fact that its lighter isn't really a benefit since these cars don't need 'less' weight in the back. If you feel like sheding pounds, the front of the car would the place to do it. If you need a new tank, get a 1LE one with a baffle or the same type that the car came with opriginally...much less to play with and it'll bolt right in. Just my $.02.

i don't know his reasoning, but the main benefit i can see is that since it's plastic, it won't rust like the metal ones.

Yes, it is a direct replacement. i asked the same question a while back and talked to a guy who has done it.

It has been done, and the benefits are obvious

A) Lighter
B) Plastic
C) Baffled
D) Increased Capacity

no reason not to go with a 4th gen tank.

who has actually done the swap? i heard that as far as size and shape, it is a direct fit, but there's an issue with the filler and the fuel sending stuff

if it is a direct fit i think i'm gonna grab the one from the shop to put in my car then. Plastic is the way to go

Well my reason is that the car I bought has no gas tank in it and I have a 93TA sitting here so I figured, if it fits then cool, I'll just put the sucker in there. Thanks guys
