Third Gen. Tail Light Lenses
Yuck. Please don't ruin your car with those. I've heard this thread before and the general consensus is you'd have to get it custom made. Vendors don't do the clear lenses for a third gen because it goes against it's domestic look. So you might wanna ask around your area for someone to do a custom job for you on it.

Interestingly enought the "European versions" / "Export versions" of our cars came with Amber turn signals. The T/A's came with Base Firebird lights, I would assume that the Camaro's came with their standard tailights for Europe... So as a matter of fact you MIGHT already have your "Euro" lights...

And these... these are the only ones that were just in a post about tail lamps. The other 2 above were into relation to finding lights like that on Ebay which, is probably your best hope in finding a set.

Hi guys. Since I live in europa, Norway I can tell you a little about "euro lights" on american cars.
Most of the time there arent any specific european lighting on the cars that come to europa. Ligislation is different, so in the case of for example the side turning light, or side marker, they dont qualify to pass the law. Do they fit any that do? No! They usually just add some cheap aftermarket sidemarker which passes the law, and in some cases it is required to paint over, or in some other way disable the original sidemarker, both functionally and visibly. In many cases you end up with two lights, one original which doesn't work, and one tacky one who does.
THe down side to this is that it usually looks kind of tacky, not something I would recommend installing to get an "european" look. The same practice goes to the taillight's. They HAVE to have a yellow marker, and if it dont, they just add a cheap plastic one.
The dealers arent espessially neat about it either, they usually picks a big unit, and drills through fenders and bumbers to mount them.
In addition, none of the DOT headlight units is allowed either, so they also have to be swithed with something that is. Sometimes they pull off a sculpted headlight which is formed to conform with the body, and in it's place they use an old style round light which doesn't look good at all.
There you have a little about the "European look", which most of us amcar guys over here think sux bigtime.

On my car the front and rear sidemarkers, third brake light and front parking lights were disabled, the rear side marker lenses were painted over and the headlights were replaced by Hella H4 units. Still not that bad, some get these fugly new turn signal/parking light blocks. Also notice the ugly mirrors.

Here on Norway, the Department of transportation is absolutely not fleksible about it either. They have a dumb *** rule that says that you cant have amber or orange turnlights, THey have to be yellow, or yellow-orange, but not orange! Like there is a big difference!
I think that the reason that they dont make clear lights for american cars, is that the whole "race" thing is so much more sought after in the US. Over here people tend to just visually tune their cars, engine tuning an european or asian car is just so much more expensive. The only option you usually have to make some decent power is to get turbo charging, and thats not cheap. And you have to do it all at once, you cant do it in steps.
But there is another reason too. The fuel prices over here is way more expensive, and thats really the reason behind so many people driving asian and european instead of american cars.
In Norway this week its about 5,6 dollars pr gallon. But now ithe prices have really gone down, last year the fuel price had an high of 8,15$ pr gallon.
Its more expensive in England that I heard, but I dont know for sure. So there you have my reason for wanting tpi instead of carb.

I don't understand the concept of making an "American" car look European. If you want a Euro car get one. If you want a Japanese car get one.
Personally I think the cars would look better with most of the lights covered up or gone entirely. But obviously you can only do that for a trailer queen or show car.

Heres a pic of my modified 91/92 GTA taillights. I basically disassembled the lights and removed the red, amber, and tinted clear reverse lens. I sealed up the fixtures and used colored bulbs. It came out real good. I get the clear lens effect(for more depth and to be different) without losing the factory grid pattern and design and not hurting the look of the car.

SLZ,
Those 91-92 T/A tailights, in your Formula, did you need to do need the wire harness from the T/A, or did the Formula harness work fine?

http://www.zalimas.com/ZMODS/PICS2.html is where you can see a pic of the lights turned off. As far as wiring them up, the Formula harness worked fine. I didnt use the small bulb receptacles and I swapped the turn signal socket to one that would fit the corners and use a single post bulb(one filament for blinking). Its been a few years since I did this but Im fairy sure this is what I did. However since Im nit pickey about details, Im going to end up changing the entire harness out and put in the taillight harness that I have from a 91/92 GTA. Hopefully it should be an easy swap. Im going to have my taillight mod in my TECH PAGE soon so thats where you will find out how exactly it was done. Stay tuned for more.... STEVE Z

swapping the harness SHOULD be easy, There is a plug on the drivers side and then you simply pull out the wires from the right rear fender marker light, and then its pretty much done once you get the clips off...
At least thats how my 83 T/A was, the only difference in that car was GM ran the Fuel gauge sender in that harness... our cars are not like that.
