power bulge hoods and open element air cleaners
humm... I didnt see the flaw or the danger. So I learned the hard way but I want to post it here so some of you dont have to learn the way I did. I have that eldelbrock elite air cleaner assembly. When I bough it the wing nut that it came with didnt fit. It was to large so I just poped some nuts on there and it held down pretty good. Been on there for 2 years no problem.
Well over the years the rubber seal that holds that peice on the hood just kinda turned to crust. And it had rained leaking water down that little space and cracks, ontop of the air cleaner, down the small hole which was only a mm big of a space between the nut and the top of the air cleaner, down the tbi, into the manifold, probably through the heads huh? leak leak leak.. all night, and morning filling up my pistons. >.< Tried to start my car to go get a dp from the gas station and LOCK! Wtf? it was trying to turn but the pistons just coulnt move with that water in there. Poped the hood and was like... ooohhhhhh *$(#
Was a fun FUN! time pulling spark plugs and trying to get around the edelbrock headers I put on there. Then just at the same time the ignition coil decides to go bad as well as the ignition module.. o.O what timing huh? I'm not sure about the rain causing tha but.. the old coil had a crack in the placstic case.
So what did I do about it? I got a calking gun full of clear window silicone sealer and took that hood peice off and seld it so that it will never leak again. Man I went crazy with that stuff because I NEVER! Want water in my engine again! PITA! lol
soo uummm... What are you waiting for..? GO SEAL YOURS HA!
