help! i'm burning up!

i know third gens are hot cars, but the heat just seems to pour through my firewall! has anyone out there used this aluminised mat material to insulate the interior? do you put it on the floorboard or on the firewall inside the engine compartment? i have an '83 w/305 and stock exhaust manifolds. i haven't noticed this much heat in the past...but this summer it's been 95 almost everyday! thanks

that's fine....but i'm interested in interior heat! firewall heat...heat that comes in and fries my feet! do i put heat proofing under the carpet, or inside the engine compartement (on the firewall)?

i did dynamat extreme on the interior - just pull the seats, lift the carpet (i didnt even take the center console out) go as far up as you can, and back to the front edge of the seat - made a HUGE difference in heat down there.. I intend to pull the whole interior this winter and do the whole car.. but thats more for noise than anything else. It was well worth the small amount of time it took.. I say do it!

That year of camaro doesn't have a valve on the heater core so the heater core gets hot water all the time. It will heat up the surrounding vents and your feet. Plus, the 'doors' in the dash that control the vent/heat/defrost etc... probably don't seal as well as they used to and may be allowing vented air to pass through the hot heater core. You might consider a manual valve for the heater core. Later third-gens had a diverter valve that stopped flow though the heater core when the heat was off.

i bought the 'bulk pack' (36 sq ft) on ebay (i did the hatch also) for about $100 shipped, but you only need maybe 4 or 5 sheets (each sheet is 18" x 32") if you do both driver and passenger.. you can also get wedge packs if you dont need so much. I think those are about $30 or so.. It may take two of them to get it done well. If you do go with the bulk pack, just cut it up with a utility knife, its much easier to work with in smaller pieces! And remember, I used the Xtreme dynamat, not the regular dynamat! Good luck!
