Please help me with my indiglow gauges!

Hi, I wanted to know if any of you guys have installed the gauges before? And if so did you remove your other gauges or just leave them there? Were the gauges still receiving power when you installed your indiglows? What I'm saying is if your stock gauges still function and light up with the indiglows over them? Also, it says on the intructions that in order to receive power to the gauges, to wire it up to the daytime running lights (drl on the fuse box) But since I don't have those, how should I go about wiring them. Should I hook them up to the headlights? And how would I go about wiring something into the fusebox. Someone was telling me that I need to connect the power wire from the gauges to the power wire in the headlights? Please help me out, I want to install them! ERic

The best thing would be to splice it off of the light for the shift position light in the center console, its easy to get to, and if its one that has a switch to change color it makes it where you can mount it in the console. This light should only be on when the headlights are. The ones I have done, I take the bulbs out of the old gages. and pull the inlays out and replace them with the new ones. Test them before install though, I just got done helping a friend put a set in a nissan and hooked everything up and the glow on the tac didn't work, Also take pictures of the gages and note before ininstall different speeds and RPM's this will help you re align the needles after re installing them. We did take it down the road and his speedo was only about 3 off from mine afterwards, from 55 to 80 we pase down the highway. He then decided to gas it, and I had to burn him, I kicked it out of OD and punched it and pulled away in a hurry. LOL. And yes his nissan is Ric* but he likes it.

Hope this helps. I haven't done one in a 3ed gen though.

You're supposed to leave the factory gauges on there. I wired the positive wire into the "lights on reminder" box. It's a black box with a little speaker in it that makes the noise when you leave your lights on. I believe the terminal I used is the one on the bottom right. Use a test light and turn your lights on and off to see which one makes the beeper go on just to make sure. No splicing required. Just insert the wire in the terminal and plug the box back in to hold it in place.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for replying to my thread! You really helped me out. 88aziroc and me put the gauges in today and they work great! We spliced the power wire into the light for the hvac controls so they only come on with the headlights. I couldn't splice into the shifter light because I don't have an automatic! But that was a great suggestion Aviator857! Again thanks a lot! to you guys!

Just realized I was too late But They are much deeper blue in reality. The pic makes them look green, which they can be, either or with the inverter.

Yeah I love my indiglows! I left the bulbs in the stock gauges so my needles would still light up but for some reason, the speedometer on doesn't light? Wierd, I'll find the problem later! Eric

I hand painted the needles a shade of orange. I tried the suggested alcohol based markers, but they streaked and faded in no time. I had great luck with this process and I think it sets them off well. I would love to have some lighted needles, but for now, they stick at night, they are black against the lit BG, and in the day, well you get the picture.

I purchased the faces on ebay, months back. I did everything from there on out

Difference in overlays

ok they look really sharp, does anyone have a pic of their guages with the reverse halo package from http://www.streetracerparts.com/mode...82_89_Iroc.htm installed? i think the picture may not do it justice. i also dont understand what the street racer faces do that the one on ebay doesnt?
i am hoping someone has a picture of the street racer guages on their 85-89 iroc so that I can see if it looks sharper and better than the picture provided on the internet on streetracer com.

if it has been posted before, does anyone know where the url is?

Also where can i find that paint you used on the needles, cause those red needles are SHARP!!!!! and you say the needle is supposed to glow? my lights are only shining from the side of the guages, not actually IN the needle itself, are my bulbs just burnt out or something?

thanks guys

if i have to, i wonder if i could buy the street racer package, and use the inverter from it, and then put the neat overlays from ebay on the guage face itself? or would that work right? would i be losing functionality? sorry this stuff is new to me.... and *** I GOTTA get someone to make me an aluminum ring set for my guages and the console lke that english guy with the firebird did!
