Question for those that have replace carpet

Ok, I decided to rip out my carpet, and most of my interior to make it easer to install my subframes. And to install my new carpet afterward. Here is my question the heavy black padding on the fire wall, did anyone remove this or did everone just sound prof over the top. I am going for a great looking and the new car smell LOL. Thats my main cacern about leaving it. My car has little to no smell to it, its never been wet on the inside that I know of, which is surprising from a T-top car. There were no dampness under the carpet ether. But I don't really want to leave any of the old cloth material behind.

Second, how do you get the glue off of the floor pan, the factory stuff, I am thinking about scraping it off but don't realy want to, anyone know a way to get it up without taking the paint with it.

I am going to put some of the peal and seal stuff down, and a layer of jute padding, and use alot of spray sound deadner. I am alos going to re run and run some extra wires for my rear speakers.

Look at page 5 of my cardomain site for pics of the naked interior.

Well, I can help you out with the glue.

On my car, it was simply a type of hot glue or something.

So I just used an old iron and a hair dryer.

The glue came off, messy, but it came off.

i put dynomat all through the interior, roof, rear and also the doors. Not just the speaker area. I took the padding off the front. The only way i got the "new" car smell was in a bottle from autozone...You wouldn't believe the difference in the sound. In and out of the car. Even with my t-tops it's really quiet. Hardly any road noise to speak of. I highly recommend this to anyone re-doing their own interior.

I know I'm digging-up a very old post, but I'm doing the EXACT same thing to my car and had the exact same dilemas. Are there any tricks to get this orange adhesive/sealer off my floors, or should I?! Also, do I have to remove the heater box to get the firewall pad off? And Aviator, did the Peel-n-Seal work well? I just got a roll of it myself...

i ended up finding some adhesive and wax remover made by 3M in a spray can at walmart and it helped to soften the hard orange adhesive up enough that i could scrape 95% of it up with a metal paint scraper

im gonna use light sand paper to get the rest without making a huge mess
