k my dash dont work just the gas gauge and bat i think its broke because when i put my hand behind it i can feel all that pastic stuff mashed up and pealing. anyway i cant get the gauge out, i no that there is a line for the speedo connected but i cant pull the thing out far enough to unhook the speedo. is there some special why, or do i just pull harder.
i'm just dont wanna brake anything.
the car is a 83 z28

 

There is a tab on the back of the speedo head to press to release the cable. 9 times out of 10 you need to reach up under the dash to access it. The cable doesn't have enopugh slack to pull the cluster oput to gain access to the release.
By feel, if you can find the cable, there is a tab on the underside of it (where the cable meets the speedo) to press. W/o tension on the cluster (don't pull while doing this), press the relese tab then pull the cluster while pressig the tab.
Hopefully that's semi-clear to uunderstand.

 

ya i no how to take off the speedo did this all fine with my bird. but i just cant get to it on this car. so i need to get to it by takeing off the cover under the dash??(like were the fuses are?)
one more question the speedo dont work at all now>does the cable make the speedo work only? just trying to figure out if the cable is also messed up
