Simple 4th Gen Console ?'s
Ive read a few posts on this, just curious about a couple things.
My main question is if I put a manual 4th gen console in my auto thrid gen, everything should just fit right with no modifications except for the radio correct? While if I went with an auto 4th gen console I would have to do more modifications to the shifter position etc?
Thanks.

So there isn't anything that needs to be changed as far as the radio pod to install a 4th gen console in a 3rd gen?
The main thing here I was to know, is i'm pretty sure that with an auto console the shifter has to be moved and some other modifications done for it to fit. I was just wondering if I used a manual console in the auto if that would solve the problems.

woah woah woah....somehow I knew that was coming. It bolts in fairly easily in firebirds - but not so easily in Camaros. There've been extensive posts on this exact subject - My suggestion is to do a search and see what you find.
Some have used a firebird radio pod and others have hacked the camaro console up. Happy Searching!

I did do a search, i read everything, but so many differant opinions, people not mentioning if they are putting it in a bird or camaro, this is what I think, someone just let me know if i'm right.
For an auto camaro if I don't want to move the shifter I should get a manual console 97-00, and I might have to cut off part of the 4th gen console for the radio if i don't want to mess with the pod. Is this correct? Thanks.

you'll still need to move the shifter over a couple inches. www.nosaint.ca is a site that I used when I did mine (firebird though) and it may be of help to you.
You're going to have to fab a holder for your window/mirror switches and be prepared to take a saw to your $120 console.

Here's a thread with pictures of a thirdgen radio pod cut off, with an earlier 4thgen console, I assume you could do the same thing with the 97+ console as well.. I just installed one, when my car gets back from getting paint I'm gonna be building something for my 8.4" LCD screen, radio and hvac controls..
edit: link would help.. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...console+camaro

$120.00 for a 4th gen consoleOUCH i only paid $7.00 for mine out of a 96 Trans am
and why would you need to take a saw to it? all i did was fab up a plate to fit in the ash tray for the power window switches and used clear silicone adhesive to mount the plate and the switches went right in i didn't have to cut anything.
guess i got lucky i just wentlooking to get one for my friends 87 Iroc and the yard wwanted $100.00

Here is what i did with my radio console when i did a 4th Gen console swap...
The manual console is the way to go, although i did have to do quite a bit of sawing because i used a 98+ console with 4 cupholders, and a little bit different design...

I didn't block it off, so the air still makes it's way out, and into the car.........I took my heater out the day after i moved to Florida......

I suppose for those who wanted heat then they could add the little vents from the 3rd gen cosole. Dremel the holes and bolt them in. Looks good though.

In my opinion the best thing to do is get the ducts from a Firebird and use the 1985-1992 Firebird radio pod.

I really dont thing you would have to worry about the ducting because with the third gen duct grills the heat would very easily find its way onto the floor of the car. All you would need to do is dremel the holes and mount the grills.
